Summer Baseball
Boston Red Sox
On May 9, Boston was in last place in the AL East (10-19), 10.5 games back from the Yankees. Since then, the Sox have gone on an absolute heater, winning 29 out of their last 41 games.
In their last 21 games, they're pitching to a 2.58 ERA, their lowest mark over any 21-game span since April 2001. With this phenomenal play, Boston has made up a grand total of -3 games in the standings. Now just 13.5 games back. Speaking of another American League beauty…
Houston Astros
They once again run the AL West Division. This weekend, the ‘Stros flew up to NY for a 4 game series with the Yankees. Entering Thursday night, Houston’s bullpen had an MLB-best 2.53 ERA.
Last night, the Astros entered the bottom of the 9th in the Bronx up 6-3. Well, after consecutive Mike Stanton and Gleyber Torres walks, Aaron Hicks tied it up with a 3-run homer before a walk-off (please see below).
Mets
I’m not going to troll the Mets. They’re playing great baseball, sporting a National League-best record of 45-26. This is pretty Amazin’ considering both deGrom and Mad Max have combined to barely pitch this year.
Mets have two of the top 3 NL RBI leaders with Pete Alonso (66) and Francisco Lindor (52).
Sunday Night Baseball
LA Dodgers at Atlanta Braves - 7 PM ET on ESPN.
Dodgers Tony Gonsolin will take the mound with the lowest ERA in the MLB (1.58). The darkhorse to start for the National League in the All-Star, vote here.
Judge Watch
70 games into the 162-game season, Aaron Judge currently has 27 home runs and is on pace for 63. No American League player has hit the 60 homerun benchmark that Babe Ruth set in 1927 since Roger Maris hit 61 in 1961.
Stanley Cup
Game 4
The Colorado Avalanche beat the Tampa Bay Lightning (3-2) in OT. The Avalanche are now just 1 game away from hoisting the Stanley Cup.
Game 5: Tonight, June 24 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
NBA Draft (Top 6)
Orlando Magic: @Pp_doesit (Duke, Forward); Player-comped by ESPN as a combo of Michael Beasley and Ben Simmons. Paolo Banchero joins Shaq, Chris Webber (traded for Penny), and Dwight Howard on the list of first overall picks selected by Orlando. - Highlights
OKC Thunder: @ChetHolmgren (Gonzaga, Center); Guy has a freak wingspan. Has great guard skills for a 7-footer. - Highlights
Houston Rockets: @jabarismithjr (Auburn, Forward); Plays the game so smooth. The “your favorite player’s, favorite player” type of the draft. - Highlights
Sacramento Kings: @keegan3murray (Iowa, Forward); Reports are that Jaden Ivey made it known he did not want to end up in Sacramento. Murray averaged 23.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from 3 as a power forward. A sharpshooter who should step right into the Kings’ starting lineup as a stretch 4. - Highlights
Detroit Pistons: @IveyJaden (Purdue, Guard); Has crazy Ja Mourant-type hype beat athleticism. Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey now form a potentially lethal combination of guards. Pistons haven’t had this sort of firepower in their backcourt since the Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton days. - Highlights
Indiana Pacers: @BennMathurin (Arizona, Guard); His hoops mixtape goes hard. Bennedict gets great elevation on his jump shots and for a guard has impressive power around the rim. - Highlights
Other Draft Night Notables:
The Knicks confused everybody by trading a bunch of picks to get out of Kemba Walker’s contract to clear space for free agency. - Trade details
Kyrie Irving is trying to work his way out of Brooklyn. Have to think Durant regrets this marriage. - Woj Bomb
Arch Manning heading to Texas
No pressure kid. Are the Longhorns officially Vince Young era back?
YouTube Rabbithole
Never realized I was such a huge movie score guy until I got hit by one on youtube recommends…
Movie Score Rankings (2010ish - Present Day)
Honorable Mentions: Anything by Hans Zimmer (Inception, Interstellar, Dark Knight).
5. The Gambler - Outro
Trash movie. Are we sure Whalberg can be a #1 on a championship-level cast? Immaculate ending scene song though. (Skip to 1:35).
4. Friday Night Lights
Technically not a movie, but it's sports-related so kick rocks. Obligatory comment: How exactly is Riggins supposed to be 16 in season 1?
3. Annihilation - Alien Scene
Still don’t get the whole ending after watching the “movie explained” on youtube but that score hits a nerve, for sure.
2. Social Network
Such a shame we’re all only about 2.5 years away from living exclusively in the Metaverse. Speaking of the dark web, go buy some W2WNotesCoin - WallStreetBets labeled it the next stonk crypto.
Moneyball
Have a nice weekend.
