Alright @YouTheReader,
Thursday’s Banter tune is Levels by Avicii. If you ever find something funny on the internet, have a story to share, or some insight on your favorite team, you can always send over a text, direct message on social media, or email WeekToWeekNotes@gmail.com. Thanks!
The vocal sample to this tune comes from Etta James’ “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”, originally sung in 1962.

Robby: Yup
If he really does have an elbow injury, they could IL him 10 days, call up this Jesus Rodriguez kid that can play 3rd (23, hitting .318, .407 OBP), move Jazz back to 2B, and have Peraza at short. Reassess Volpe after the All-Star break.
Drew: Seriously. He needs the weekend off.
Robby: They won’t do it because they don’t want to be wrong.
Robby: Let’s go - we’re turning this around !!!
Drew: Now we’re talkin!
Drew: This is a crazy story by the way
Robby: 2 pitches
Drew: It’s right in front of us.
Maybe they’ve been trying to leverage the trade market by saying Jazz could play either, but if so, it’s not really working.
Drew: Yes, I think that’s what they’re doing, but to your point, it’s not working at all.
If the Yankees can use Clarke Schmidt as a deadline trade chip, do it.
Drew: I like Clarke, but I don’t disagree
Robby: I would trade anyone but Judge at this point.
Robby: I guess the trade is off.
Womp, womp, womp, womp
Drew: That is a disaster. That really sucks. He’s been really good.
Robby: He’ll be out deadline trade for a SP when he comes off the IL (unless he’s done for the year, which he prob is).
Drew: It may be time to give him a call..
Can’t have much worse range than DJ or as bad a bat as Peraza…
Drew: I’m being sarcastic, but at the same time…. I might be serious
Would be like Bernie Mac’s Mr. 3000, except A-Rod is going for 700 homers.
Drew: I would rather watch that than Oswald or DJ. Also, Cody Bellinger just struck out on 5 balls. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen that.
Robby: Season sucks. Who do we have that can pinch-hit for Volpe?
Max Fried used to hit in the NL.
Robby: He’ll need someone on base
Drew: Doesn’t matter anymore cuz Luke Weaver sucks now.
Robby: They all do, except one guy. How did Vlad not get thrown out? Maybe ump knows it was another bad call?
Drew: The ump is so bad. We need the robots.
Robby: Martian 4-5. Grab some pine tmrw against the Mets.
Drew: Yup, do you think Hal Steinbrenner even knows we just got swept?
Robby: Does he care is the question.
Drew: No shot.
Drew: If a Yankee tried to do this, he would throw this ball 47 rows back into the stands.
Robby: Well, we don’t really have a 1st baseman, so probably.

Yogi seemed to know a thing or two about winning.
Robby: That’s what I said after watching him manage the Toronto series ?!?
Robby: Wow
At this point, there’s no way anyone on the team buys into anything he says. Or if they do, it’s almost more concerning.
Robby: I’d be willing to watch Soto hit 8 homeruns and the Mets sweep the Yanks this weekend if it meant they got rid of Cash and Boone and started over. Instead, they’ll win 1 game, and Boone will say he liked how they fought and that Yanks vs Mets is good for NY fans.
Robby: Wow
Shaping up for Soto to have a fun weekend. Mets’ rotation is a mess, but they’ll get right against the Yankees. Schmidt’ll be back in 2027 to throw a 5.35 ERA in 10 starts before hitting free agency.
Robby: Can he hit a little? If so, bring him up.
He hasn’t had much pop in minors but bats .315, hits to all fields, and walks. Not sure if they believe in him or want to trade him while his stock is up.
Robby: They need to bounce Perazza and DJ and get Jazz back to 2b. They need a real 3b. And with Schmidt maybe out for year, they’ll pass on a big trade so get some rando player that stinks.
Gil will be the big trade. Cash will strike a deal for a random Pirates bullpen guy with a 6.21 ERA, trade for a 4/5 starter who can’t handle NY, and acquire a utility IF guy. Somehow, the Pirates’ RP guy will be the best of the bunch.
Drew: Yes. IKF will be in the Pirates trade too and he will be our 3rd baseman.
Drew: He CLEARLY cannot pinch hit, but they always do it.
Drew: Maybe we’re back!
Drew: Never mind!
Robby: Stroman is a bum.
Idk if Yanks will ever score again.
Robby: Soto looks like he hates being a Met and misses the Yankees.
Drew: I think Weaver is done. He’s turned into a pumpkin.
Robby: U stole my line.
Drew: Yes, I did
Robby: And beat me was literally typing. Anyway, the team stinks.
Drew: What a joke. We are the best team in baseball though, so I’m sure we’ll be ok.
They really might actually fire Boone
Drew: I don’t think they’ll ever do it. Which is insane.
Robby: Good God

Robby: Never forget.
Robby: And would be mortified if he saw what was happening to his Yankees.
Boone would’ve been fired years ago.
Drew: This really sucks
Robby: Damn
👽 batting 6th after leading off with two homers yesterday is ridiculous, you know they wanted to bench him.
Robby: Yes - surprised to see him in the line-up.
Robby: Schlittler hype video
Drew: What the hell are these guys doing?
Trying to get their manager fired.
Drew: It’s crazy
Robby: Subconsciously trying to get Boone fired - or just stink?
Robby: This team is becoming a joke.
Captain sleepwalking, time to fire the manager.
Drew: Enter “Sandridge”, exit Drew.
The part that sucks is the firing Boone might actually be a wake up call for a salvageable situation, but Hal needs to prove he’s patient and nothing like The Boss.
Drew: There has to at some point be a difference between patience and admitting that something is just not working.
Maybe Boone needs to tear his ACL playing pickup again. Then they can get out of the contract.
Drew: And ARod can replace him again 😂😂😂
Make ARod player/coach
Robby: Arod is a baseball savant. He would likely love the opportunity to manage this team. But interpersonal skills are pretty bad, and he comes across as phony.
True, Ausmus might be the guy.
Cody Bellinger was mentioned in that post, too.
8 years now. It’s not like fans are overreacting.
Drew: Nope. He should have been gone at least 3 years ago.
Robby: Why did they not get a real 3b? Why has Anthony Volpe regressed in everything? Why is Perazza and DJ the only options the have to play 2b? Why is Jazz not there? Why do they not play with any excitement or real energy? Why so many baserunning mistakes every year? Why do they start off looking like the best team in baseball then fall apart - almost every year? Why does Rodon never pitch well in a big game? Too many and so many more questions. I literally think Hal does not know what to do without Cashman telling him. Hal is like Woody, except at least Woody does something even if the wrong thing.
It’s almost as if Hal has no idea what’s going on
Drew: Couldn’t have put it better myself.
Drew: This is a very good thread. He’s definitely missing a few, but it’s pretty great
Robby: I don’t want them to waste Judge years - but I would be ok if the wheels fell off and it forced Hal’s hand. I think it could happen. #8 and #7 were horrendous. Roof open - good lord. I forgot about that one.
We’re not the Yankees anymore
Robby: 💯 Nobody fears us. We are becoming a joke.
*Skipping over my 45-minute incoherent text-rant after Pier 13 and 8th Street Tavern, with the only thing that made any sense was how Bernie Williams should be in Cooperstown.*

Robby: Right thing to do and took too long, but these have to be brutal conversations to have.
He had to have seen this coming. I wonder what his playing time expectations were if Cabrera never got hurt.
Drew: It’s pretty crazy that Boone is basically admitting that DJ can’t move anymore. I feel like he hasn’t been terrible at the plate. Like he could have SOME value as a pinch hitter. Probably not.
Robby: I think they are gonna trade for a 3b.
Drew: Me too. Peraza can’t be the plan. I like him, but he might be the worst hitter I’ve ever seen.
Drew: Mariners pitcher tonight looks like Chad Green’s cooler brother

Yes, Chad Green’s older brother, who also plays in a band from the 90s.
Drew: Yes. Probably rides a skateboard.

Robby: And yet some still say a triple in the most exciting play in baseball lol.
Absolutely flying around the bases, he’s a catcher too.
Robby: I thought his shoulder was bothering him? Shouldn’t do it if they ask.
Good point, hopefully the MLB doesn’t ask him.
Robby: Good lord
At this point, he’s gotta be staying unless it’s for a star.
Robby: This is awesome.
It would be pretty ironic for MLB to do a bunch of research and work into the ABS system, only for have Players Union to want to outlaw it.
Robby: Dummy’s
His first couple of seasons with the Yankees were great. Game 6 home run in Houston could’ve been an all-timer. Round ending, good Yankee.
Robby: Wow - I bet he asked out. Was good. Injuries ruined it.
True, maybe they’ve added a 3B.
Robby: This feels like the type of answer that should be “we’re going to keep that between the Yanks and DJ.” Now seems like saying he wanted to stay, but we wanted him out.
Yeah, maybe the Rockies will sign him back as a mentor.
Robby: Oof
Robby: Wow, Schlittler is the real deal. Competitor. Throws gas for strikes.
He should be in the rotation for the rest of the season. Impressive debut.
Robby: No doubt. Also - Volpe looks like an auto-out every at bat. He seems mentally fried. Not good.
Drew: Was at a work thing all night so missed everything. That really does suck about DJ. It’s probably the right move (although I feel like he wasn’t awful this year?), but like you said, Thomas, his first 2 years here were awesome. It’s really a bummer that he was just washed up the last few years. I gotta watch some Schlittler highlights.
Robby: DJ had to go. Bad contract, but his first 2 years were awesome. And Schlit was awesome. Throws legit, easy gas.
Drew: Yeah. It sucks, but also by tomorrows game, we probably won’t miss him at all and will be wondering why we didn’t do this last year.
No fielding errors from Volpe, though…Yanks might be back.
This week’s Critiquing the Critics is on The Perfect Storm. The movie just turned 25 years old at the end of June, so I rewatched it on Amazon Prime. My parents rented it from Blockbuster when I was growing up, but my mom never told me the ending. With a star-studded cast and a budget of $140 million, the biographical disaster drama brought in $329 million at the box office.
Here are some IMDb facts about the film…

The summer of 2000 movie is based on the 1997 non-fiction book with the same title by Sebastian Junger. He wrote his book about the Perfect Storm, aka The No-Name Storm and the Halloween Gale Storm, which took place the week of Halloween, October 1991.
The Andrea Gail commercial swordfishing boat crew set sail from Gloucester, Massachusetts. The famous harbor town is considered the oldest seaport in America. From 1623 to 1923, approximately 3,000 local fishermen were said to have been lost at sea. Despite the 2-week search by the Coast Guard that covered 186,000 square nautical miles, to this day, the boat has never been recovered.
The names of the members of the six-man crew on the Andrea Gail were Captain Frank William "Billy" Tyne Jr., David "Sully" Sullivan, Alfred Pierre, Robert "Bobby" Shatford, Dale "Murph" Murphy, and Michael "Bugsy" Moran. The families of the real-life crew didn’t necessarily love Hollywood’s portrayal, but thought the books were much more accurate about who they were as people.
Star-studded cast. George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, John C. Reilly, and William Fichtner made a believable crew. Other considerations for the Captain Billy Tyne part were Harrison Ford, Nicolas Cage, and Mel Gibson. Whalberg had some Boston competition with Ben Affleck in his portrayal of Bobby Shatford. Once Clooney recommended him for the role, “It was a handshake and he got the job,” said The Perfect Storm’s director Wolfgang Peterson. Whalberg stayed in Bobby Shatford’s room above the Crow’s Nest bar and is said to have even checked IDs at the door one time while they were filming.
