It was released in June of ‘14. A nice feel-good song with a flair of nostalgia and dreaming big. It could be described as very catchy and relatable, which is why it peaked at #23 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on US Country Airplay in the summer of ‘14.
Very sad what happened to MTV, but shoutout to Nipper from RCA.
Sea to Shining Sea and a Bruce Springsteen reference, very respectable.
I made myself my own Rolling Stone cover a couple of years ago.
Chesney said of this verse, “Hey, life is hard. People work long hours, have all kinds of stuff going on in their personal lives. But if there's one thing I've seen over the last 10 years, looking out at the faces in the crowd: you can't keep my fans down. These are people who no matter what are in love with life, and they're gonna find the good times no matter what."
Nice tune. The history of Ellis Island and the Statue of Libery will resume next Sunday, Stumblin’ Along. Today, the focus is just on the Yanks…
Game 83 (6/29)
- Marcus Stroman makes his way back to the Bronx. Jazz Chisholm has himself a day, homering in his first at-bat in the 2nd inning, makes a great double play in the field to end the Top of the 3rd, hits a 3-run bases-loaded bases-clearing double in the bottom half of the 3rd, and then later scores on a wild pitch. Jazz had the best individual performance by a Yankee 3rd Baseman since prime A-Rod, as Stroman went 5 innings, allowing just 1 run. Yanks win 12-5.
Jazz Double Play
Game 84 (6/30)
- Carlos Rodon vs Mad Max Scherzer in Toronto. Jazz goes yard again to make it 2-0 in the 3rd. Trent Grisham has to leave the game in the 5th with a hamstring injury. In the 6th, Anthony Volpe makes two terrible throwing decisions when he should’ve kept the ball in his back pocket. This sets up the Blue Jays with 4 runs. Cody Bellinger hits a solo homer in the 8th, but the Yanks fail to mount a comeback, losing 5-4.
Anthony Volpe giving up free bases.
Game 85 (7/1)
- Yanks play the Jays on the afternoon of Canada Day. Max Fried on the mound, he’s given a 2-0 1st inning lead thanks to a two-out, bases-loaded single off the bat of The Martian. In the 4th inning, Fried gives up a solo homer to George Springer, and the Jays take advantage of a weak throw from Jazz Chisholm, which results in a 3-run homer to Andres Gimenez. The Yankees tie things up at 4-4 in the 7th, but the bullpen blows it, headlined by a Springer grand slam. Yanks lose 12-5.
Jazz too nonchalant on a weak ground ball.
Game 86 (7/2)
- Will Warren gives up 5 runs without recording an out in the 1st inning. Toronto scores 7 when all is said and done in the 1st frame. The Yankees’ offense storms back to tie things at 9-9 on an Aaron Judge 8th inning 2-run moonshot. An excellent offensive comeback goes to waste when Devin Williams throws a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th, giving the Jays the lead again. Yanks lose 11-9.
Devin Williams’ wild pitch.
Game 87 (7/3)
- The Jays score first in the 1st as it’s Clarke Schmidt’s turn to give Toronto the lead. Trent Grisham hits a solo homer in the 3rd to tie things at 1-1, only for Schmidt to nibble around the strike zone and give up a 2-run homer to George Springer. The Martian gets the 4th inning going with a triple, followed by a Volpe bloop single, who scores on a wild pitch to tie things at 3-3. It turns out Schmidt was pitching injured as Clayton Beeter makes his regular-season debut in relief. Beeter proceeds to nibble too and not to have a put-away pitch, giving up 3 runs while only getting 5 outs. Yanks score 2 runs in the 7th to make it a one-run game, Cody Bellinger strikes out while simultaneously getting hit by a pitch in the 8th, but George Springer capped off the series sweep by launching another 2-run homer, this time off a Luke Weaver fastball right down Broadway. Yanks get swept and give up 1st place.
George Springer night cap
Game 88 (7/4)
- Independence Day afternoon ballgame to start the Subway Series. The Martian goes yard out of the lead-off spot, and Judge makes it back-to-back, hitting his 32nd of the season. Juan Soto ties things up in the bottom half with a 2-run homer. Soto then doubles in the 3rd and scores on a Pete Alonso grounder that gets past Volpe. Bellinger clubs a solo homer in the 4th to tie things at 3-3. Dominguez gives the Yanks the lead back with his 2nd opposite-field homer of the game. Luke Weaver gives Jeff McNeil a meatball changeup to blow the lead. Yanks lose 6-5.
Luke Weaver giving up another home run.
Game 89 (7/5)
- Yankees start the game with three lackadaisical plays in the field as a lazy fly ball finds the grass in Left-Center, Jazz doesn’t cover 3rd base on a pickoff throw from the catcher, and Anthony Volpe has another awful throw on a routine play. In between the lackluster performance, Carlos Rodon gives up a grand slam. Aaron Judge goes Oh For Four and gets hit square in the eye by Anthony Volpe in between innings. Great look for the Yankee captain, shockingly, Volpe was accurate on that one. Yanks lose 12-6. They’re an absolute joke.
Aaron Judge getting a black eye.
Move to Make?
- Fire Aaron Boone. It’s been 8 years of the same story. Send Brian Cashman to the sun. Maybe fire the team sleep specialist and have the players figure out their own bedtimes like adults. Just a thought. They need a wake-up call.
