Alright @YouTheReader,
Happy Fathers Day to all the dads. Today’s tune this Father’s Day is Stir It Up by Bob Marley. I’ll be honest, I was planning on going with Cat’s in the Cradle by Harry Chapin but then I had a few too many drinks with my old man last night. That feels like a song you gotta give your full, undivided attention to and my brain is mushed on Mars right now. Anyway, my dad is a massive fan of both Johnny Cash and Bob Marley, quite the contrast in styles, I think they call that duality of man or something.
Stir it up usually means to cause a bit of a problem or trouble. In this song Bob Marley seems to flip the meaning as his version of stir it up is relax. Marley and the Wailers made this song in 1967. It would go on to become Marley’s first hit outside of Jamaica when Johnny Nash covered the tune in 1972. When my dad was 6 years old, it peaked at the charts at #13 in Ireland, the UK, and #12 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
