Eyes Closed | Casino People | David Farragut | PGA Championship ‘23
Alright @YouTheReader, I’m sure you’ve heard this song a ton on the radio or TikTok, but one way or another it caught my ear while Stumblin’ Along.
In the months prior to #GuinnessChallengeSeason, I never would’ve thought I’d be able to go to a bar alone without walking in or meeting up with friends. It certainly felt a bit strange to me at first. Now, I don’t even think anything of it. All I’m trying to say is the more you put yourself out there, the easier things you may have thought were hard disappear.
When I originally heard the song I thought it was another Sad Song Sunday about a breakup but it turns out Ed Sheeran had lost a dear friend of his.
Whether your takeaway from the song might be my Warped Logic or preferably Ed Sheeran’s reasoning, hopefully, the takeaway from this song is that if things feel bizarre or strange from something out of your control, just keep moving forward. Even if it means doing so with your Eyes Closed.
This past Monday night I went to a Speakeasy Session at Gin Mill in The City. Ryan Bondy, who I met at Gin Mill while drinking Guinness Pints this past winter, performed with his wife Hilary. The awesome duet is called the Casino People and here are some quick Notes I took from witnessing their performance…
9 PM at Gin Mill. The Yanks are up 6-0 over the Jays. (Ryan is a huge Blue Jays fan 🫤.)
Speakeasy Spot is dimly lit and the room is filled to the brim.
@Miles_Cee is the opener and it is his birthday. Huge fan of whiskey gingers and he is a very talented young singer/songwriter.
The Casino People are up… the first reaction, the harmonica needs to make more of a comeback.
They started off with a song they made called “Notice Me”, a great tune!
The “Cover Me Up” cover by Jason Isbell was a very nice touch.
Hilary performed “Australia”, a song not only about where she is from but where everybody can relate to when they think of home.
Both Ryan and Hilary have superb voices and the lyrics are well-written. I can say something like that because I’m a writer now for a year.
“Pineapple Sauce” was the first song couple made together. It is a fun song where they could get the crowd involved as everybody drinking in the audience would shout back “I want.”
The last song that the Casino People performed was “Change” and it had an extremely distinct intro. It was the first time they had performed it in front of a crowd and it really was an amazing song! Really special song and it might have been my favorite of the night. The Shruti Box introduction is awesome.
