Dreamer | Sally’s | Dog Bone | Goldie’s Tavern | YouTube Rabbithole
Hi @YouTheReader,
Today’s tune is Dreamer by Livin’ Joy. It was on in the background at one of these fine drinking establishments in The City. This song came out in August of 1994. It didn’t peak on the charts until the summer of 1995 when it reached #1 in the UK, #7 in Ireland, and #72 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
I’m all dreamed out typing about dreams from yesterday’s Dream On. That said, this is a fun tune from the 90s that might make you go, “Oh yeah, I remember this song.”
The beat is what caught my attention, it was originally sung by Janice Robinson, she left the Eurodance group in 1996, and Tameko Star has taken over ever since. Week to Week Notes would like to endorse savoring love, life, and laughter…Jeez, I can’t believe that wasn’t done already.
This era was still when they would play music on MTV. It had a pretty solid digitally advanced music video considering it was the mid-90s.
What was written on Dream On was from the heart imploring people to pursue their ambitions. I’ll always try to encourage people to do so, but promise to maybe not be as outwardly. I don’t want to turn people off, I get it’s a Tuesday night / Wednesday morning so here’s the dancing 90s baby…
Let’s grab some pints…
#GuinnessChallengeSeason
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, whom I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Dollar bills and crossword puzzles on the Maroon ceiling. 4 disco balls are above where the bar patrons sit at the bar. I’m staring at an exposed brick backdrop behind the bar with 4 TVs of sports. They have foldable beer pong tables set up with currently no solo cups. That’s okay tonight, it’s an older crowd anyway that just worked all day. $10 beer and shot special. I’ve now completed 10 #GuinnessChallengeSeason Notebooks. 48 pages x 10 = 480 pints🫣… Aneta is the bartender and she gave me the pint for $5. Thank you!
Sally’s Bar was formerly Whiskey Rebel and opened up in the summer of ‘20. Since then it has become one of the hottest bars in the Kips Bay neighborhood. They serve all types of whiskeys, ice-cold beer, cocktails, cognac, and wine. You could go to Sally’s on a date, watch a game, or just have a few pops after work. I look forward to grabbing another drink at Sally’s again!
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Sitting in between a conversation with a Canadian and New Zealander. Dan, who is half working on his laptop, is from Canada, and he thinks it’s great that Dog & Bone is showing Game 4 of the WNBA Finals on TV. Kalene is from South New Zealand where they roll their “R’s.” Her family was Scottish, “We things.” I’m having fun listening to them put on exaggerated accents, they can turn them on and off whenever they want. Dan told us about how China and Russia just formed an additional alliance. The three of us had a geopolitical conversation…Well not really me, I kinda just sat there, listened, and took Notes like a sponge. Both of them have kids around my age. The consensus was that we have it pretty great, which I concurred with. Dan said, “We’re too negative about how good we have it.” One of the two of them has a family member who went to a very prestigious American university and now works in American media. “Both sides are an echo chamber of the out-of-touch elite.” I was told they appreciated what I was doing with Week to Week Notes. Kalene saw “The Book of Mormon” yesterday and tonight she is seeing Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) in a play. She also visited Brooklyn this morning. When I asked her about rugby in New Zealand, she said, “In New Zealand, rugby is a religion.”
My Dog & Bone bar experience was a very interesting experience you only probably get the opportunity to have in places like The City. It’s pretty cool because 2 years ago I probably wouldn't have even had the courage to grab a drink alone and now here I was sitting between normal, cool people with different perspectives. Honestly, I didn’t have much input on anything because I was more so curious to see what they had to say on these matters. I never know what’s going to be the topic of discussion when I sit down for a pint, so this one was sorta very memorable in that regard. My biggest takeaway from it was to try to never take whatever we have for granted.
The Dog & Bone was established in ‘17 as a neighborhood bar on the corner of 25th and 3rd Ave. The name was inspired by an English bulldog named Winston. The bar has a slogan of “Sit, Stay, Eat” which is creative and pro-doggo. It’s a dog-friendly establishment with great outdoor seating. At Dog & Bone, you fetch every sport such as EPL, Champions League, Rugby, Baseball, NFL, NBA, and the WNBA. The Las Vegas Aces beat the New York Liberty that night to win back-to-back WNBA Championships. They also have a dart board and run a weekly darts league. I look forward to grabbing another pint of Guinness at Dog & Bone again!
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Tall Guinness mug is serious, they have a smaller option, but when in Rome ya know. They have a 3-course lunch for $30. Mark Messier and a Dream Team portrait of MJ, Magic, and Bird are behind me on the wall. They also have Tiger, Pat Ewing, and Andre Agassi as well. A sports bar. ALCS Game 3 on TV. Bottom 3rd and the Astros are up 4-0. They have Connect 4 and Operation at the corner of the bar. PB old-fashioned or Hot Honey is recommended. Goldie’s Tavern has a highly recommended hot chicken sandwich from the patrons next to me.
Goldie’s Tavern is a neighborhood cocktail sports bar. It’s got a very hip golden vibe to the place. On Wednesdays at 7 PM they host trivia nights. You can go there for brunch, lunch, and dinner as their menu has a bit of everything. They have an old-school arcade set up where you can play NBA Jam. Goldie’s Tavern is a very nice 90s vibe sports bar, right up my alley! I look forward to grabbing another pint of Guinness at Goldie’s Tavern again!
