Time After Time | Denino’s | Triona’s | Gatsby’s Landing | YouTube Rabbithole
Happy V-Day @YouTheReader,
Today’s tune is Time After Time by Brookyln’s own Cyndi Lauper. Last year in my drunken stupor I wrote I wanted to pick a song that both people with a significant other or without can relate to so we'll run it back with Vol II this Valentine’s Day.
This particular song reminds me of a movie that came out in ‘04. It is in the soundtrack so I decided to prepare a dance for everybody. Hope you like it!
Practiced this in front of the mirror for the last few weeks. Does anybody want to upload it on their TikTok for me?
Anyone who refuses to admit this song is a timeless classic, c’mon how do you not like this tune?
For those who haven’t seen Napoleon Dynamite, I have no idea how or why it was a cultural phenomenon but it was high-key-low-key very rewatchable for about a summer or two. Maybe it was just because we only had DVDs and couldn’t stream things with two clicks of the finger?
If you’re ever lost on the internet and looking for something to read while on your commute to work, tired of staring at TikTok while you’re hungover in bed, or looking for a distraction coming from a village idiot writing about sports while you're in the bathroom stall after 3rd coffee of a productive morning. Whatever the reason that gets you to Week to Week Notes will try to be there… Time After Time.
Whether you’re happily married or as single as a pringle, hopefully, you have yourself a lovely Valentine’s Day!
Time After Time will be the permanent Valentine’s Day song on Week to Week Notes. I’ll probably just copy&paste this intro.
Confirming that this intro was copied and pasted from last year. It was a bit corny but the sentiments remain the same. Last Valentine’s Day was just over 40 consecutive days of Notes and I was writing out of my arse to think I could do this every day…Now it’s nearly 400 days of Notes down. It’s not much, but it’s something. Also, you should see my Time After Time dance today, it’s nearly mastered. Lastly, fellas, if you have a girl, make sure to get her flowers, chocolate, and the works!
Onto the pints of Guinness…
#GuinnessChallengeSeason
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, whom I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: It’s opening night for hockey and I just walked through the Ancient Rome Exhibit for $13 on the Fever app. Everybody’s favorite Dave, Portnoy gave the pizza a 9.0 rookie score. In 1887 the Denino family arrived off the boat. In 1923, Carlo Denino was born and his father opened a Confectionary Store. By 1925 they opened a pool hall. During Prohibition they served beer. In the year 1937, they set up shop in Staten Island as a Tavern. They started cooking their excellent slices in the year 1951. On the wall, they have a NY Post poster about the restaurant. According to the bartender, just one sip of their espresso martini cures sadness. Deninos also has locations in Staten Island and California. On their top shelf, they have very rare and aged Rip Van Winkle Bourbon, which is worth over a grand a bottle.
Denino’s Pizza is an Italian Restaurant with a phenomenal pizza slice. Of course, not every bar in Manhattan will have Guinness on tap and that’s more than okay, none of the pubs with great pours serve a slice quite like them! It is always very cool to hear stories about New York businesses that have been landmarks for nearly a century. In ‘16, Denino’s opened up in Greenwich Village. The Castellano Family owns and operates Denino’s in Greenwich Village, with Joey Castellano working for the Denino family for over 30 years while learning every aspect of the business. They are renowned for their thin-crust pizza and Italian Flare. No wonder Portnoy gave them such a high score, they aspire to continue the Denino tradition of a family-run neighborhood restaurant and do a terrific job at it! One of their sayings is “Come as a guest. Leave as a friend.” I look forward to grabbing another drink at Denino’s again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Trivia night tonight. They are a sports bar that has darts and a pool table. One of the questions was just what day did FDR famously say would be a day that lives in infamy? (December 7, 1941, I’m not playing but knew the answer). My favorite golfer was born on that day, so it ain’t so bad! The Rangers and Orioles are on TV, it’s Game 3 of the ALDS with Texas up 2-0. Triona’s has Halloween decorations behind the bar and a lot of skeletons. Their pub grub is recommended. Lastly, their Guinness pour tap behind the bar is very cool.
Triona’s does weekend specials such as a Domestic Beer Bucket which comes with 7 brews for $43, if you go with the Imported Beer Bucket it comes with 7 beers for $49, and if you go with a Seltzer’s Bucket it’s $62. Their Happy Hour is more like an afternoon as it goes from 1 PM to 7 PM on Monday to Friday. They are a very cool pub to visit for Trivia Nights as well as Sports. While I was there, people were playing darts and pool after work. They also back Notre Dame and Da Bears in football, so definitely a good spot if you root for the Fightin’ Irish. My Gaelic is shite, the only thing my dad taught me was how to say is “Pogue Mahone”, but Triona translates to a pure, unpolluted, almost virgin-like girl. I look forward to grabbing another pint of Guinness at Triona’s on 10th again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: While I was leaving the steakhouse called Striphouse in Midtown (they don’t serve Guinness) John Sterling, the voice of the New York Yankees’ radio was walking in. I was shocked and half shouted directly into his face, “You’re John Sterling.” I’m wearing a Yankee hat so I’m sure the poor guy gets it all the time and was just trying to get some steak. The guy he was with saw the whole interaction and just started smirking. Gatsby’s Landing is a very nice restaurant located in Midtown. Peter from Dallas is the bartender. When he’s not bartending, he’s also an actor, pretty cool! He recommends the Gatsby’s Mule and Black Widow cocktails. On the menu, he said to go with the duck. They’ve been around for over a year and opened on Father’s Day in ‘22.
Gatsby’s Landing has two locations, one near Times Square and the other Out East on the North Shore of Long Island in the Village of Roslyn. Out East, they have a beautiful scenic view of the Roslyn Pond and outdoor seating. Their spot by Times Square is a great spot for either before or after catching a show on Broadway, it’s also by Rockefeller Center. The name stems from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s American literature classic, “The Great Gatsby.” Inside both locations, they encompass a vintage New York feel and with a modern-day atmosphere. These joints would be where Gatsby &/or Ms. Daisy Buchanan would go for a cocktail as they are stylish and sophisticated. They’ve had a who’s who of celebrity guests join them for a drink, including Brian Cox, Matthew McFadden (Tom from Succession), Arian Moayed (Stewie from Succession), Burt Young (Uncle Paulie from Rocky), Al Roker, Anna Kendrick, Jake Gyllenhall (where’s the scarf, Jake?), and Billy Joel! When I met Roger Federer and shook his hand, it was like being in the presence of a chiseled statue, but I was composed. John Sterling had me off my rocker. I look forward to grabbing another drink at Gatsby’s Landing again soon!
