Today’s tune is Feckin’ Perfect by P!nk. It was on in the background at one of these fine drinking establishments and I went with it because my Auntie M is a massive fan of hers. She even went to London to see her in concert and check out what was poured for her…
Feckin’ Perfect was released in December of ‘10 and peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while reaching #15 in Ireland. Alecia Moore Hart, otherwise known as P!nk, has been making radio hits since the early 2000s. One of her first big breaks was touring with NSYNC in the summer of 2000, so she’s been around. I went to look at her catalog, fellas, you would be surprised by the number of songs you’d know… Get The Party Started, Just Like A Pill, Lady Marmalade, So What, Who Knew, Just Give Me a Reason, Raise Your Glass, Try, What About Us, and just last year she made Trustfall. Whether she is pop punk or punk pop, who knows, she’s got her own unique style of music…and she’s pretty badass.
You should see the number of times I get lost trying to find these specific bars on Google Maps in The City, a lot of wrong turns especially coming out of the subways. Has happened more than once or twice and when I’m in Brooklyn, fuggedaboutit. In terms of taking Notes, I’ve dug myself into and out of trouble quite a few times, with not a lot of blood and fire involved though, not as badass. If you’re new here, I’m sorry for rambling, I know it’s a Wednesday, but yeah I drink a Feckin’ Perfect amount of Guinness, welcome to this silly Week to Week Notes life.
P!nk got her nickname out of embarrassment as a kid. She was at a camp when “some kids at camp pulled my pants down and I blushed so much, and they were like, 'Ha ha! Look at her! She's pink!' And then the movie Reservoir Dogs came out and Mr. Pink was the one with the smart mouth, so it just happened all over again." (E-News)
You’re all more than alright in my book too!
The power of positive thinking is pretty wild. There is so much negativity in the world, let’s face it we have a lot going on out of our control. Who knows if it’s always been this way or if we just see it everywhere now 100x worse because of all the screens we have. One of the only things we have power over is how we perceive things. To a certain extent, shit is always bound to hit the fan, it’s up to you to view it as half empty or half full.
Rumor has it that the ice-cold beer P!nk is referring to is a pint of Guinness. (Source: Trust Me Bro) Remember, she entered the music scene in her early 20s during the peak of Britney Spears’ era pop. Being that she is a bit of a Tom-boy, she had her critics, but she persevered to win 3 Grammys while being nominated 21 times.
Happy (technically belated) Anniversary to Grandma & Grandpa Davis!
Don’t they look Feckin’ Perfect!
On to the pints…
#GuinnessChallengeSeason
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, whom I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Duke College signs are taped up on the walls. I must be crashing a Duke alumni networking event. Game 2 of the Blue Jays and Twins Wild Card series is on TV. They also have a giant Georgia Bulldogs flag hanging up. Rustic vibe to this bar. They also have enormous buffalo and deer heads on the wall. A ton of whiskeys and bitters lined up behind the bar. I tried coming here last night and it was too crowded so they must draw a nice after-work Happy Hour crowd.
This Super Bowl Sunday, the American Whiskey will have a free open bar from 5:30 to 6:30 for the pregame of the Big Game for all parties of 4 if you buy food. It includes beer, wine, Happy Dad, and Bud Light Seltzers. After the Happy Hour, they will also have some nice deals such as $25 Bud Light Pitchers, $25 Whiskey Flights, and $60 Wing Platters. Located in the heart of Midtown, American Whiskey is great for sporting events year around and they sure knew how to host a party of Duke Blue Devils. There was a ton of networking going on, Christian Laettner, JJ Reddick, and Coach K were being spoken about every 5th sentence. I look forward to grabbing another drink at American Whiskey again!
Song On In The Background: Take It Easy by The Eagles
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: A picture of Willie Mays behind the bar. Guinness Zero was their most sold drink last weekend. One of the 2 owners of the bar is a popular ring announcer for Barclays. Dave Diamante and David McWater are the names, they know all about the boxing world so this is a great place to catch a fight. Sarah Fina, an MMA fighter, works here too. They show all the boxing and MMA fights. It’s a very cool, open-spaced lounge with couches and board games. You are welcome to bring your own food in, bar’s bar. Tiffany is the bartender. She’s lived in the City since the 90s but is originally from Amsterdam. She would like to live in the countryside one day and she now owns a Bulldog. She also has a daughter who is a writer.
Joe Louis fought Max Baer at Yankee Stadium on September 24, 1935. Louis famously knocked Baer down twice, the first time he had ever hit the canvas in his career. You probably know who Max Baer is from the movie Cinderella Man, when James J. Braddock, the Pride of New Jersey, defeated Baer in a massive upset. One of Baer’s next fights would be against Louis at Yankee Stadium, which Louis would win. Joe Louis would then go on to become champion of the world when he defeated Braddock in 1937. Diamantes is a place to embrace pugilism and great cocktails. They have a ton of space and have even hosted events such as Dave East’s listening party this past November. It is a bit of a hidden gem in New York City’s Midtown as you have to go up a flight of stairs to reach the speakeasy lounge, but well worth it if you’re a fan of the fight game. While of course, I would never condone fighting in a bar, defintiely don’t do it here, there will be a ton of people who can kick your arse, but otherwise, they are all very nice! I look forward to grabbing another drink at Diamantes again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Largest Diner in New York City. They are located at the bottom of the New Yorker Hotel. The shakes are recommended, they have some amazing cakes as well. They are not affiliated with Tick Tok whatsoever, they were around first! Old school booths to sit at. I really feel like ordering a burger and shake with fries.
Week to Week Notes stands with Tick Tock Diner’s apps > TikTok the app. The largest diner in The City has meals around the clock and is an iconic symbol of casual dining. They have very affordable prices and a family-friendly atmosphere. Their extensive menu is accented with Italian, Greek, and Tex-Mex influences. I look forward to getting a burger and shake at Tick Tock Diner again soon!
