Oops!… I Did It Again | Prohibition River | Olde Village Inn | The Henry | Casa De Sol | YouTube Rabbithole
Alright @YouTheReader,
Today’s tune is Oops!… I Did It Again by Britney Spears because it was on in the background at one of these fine drinking establishments in Nyack, New York. This song was a massive hit for the then 19-year-old when it came out in April of ‘00. It peaked at #9 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #2 on the Irish Charts, and #1 on the UK. I, like many of you, vividly remember the red bodysuit.
Much like I’m sure many of my @FellowSwifties, before Taylor, we stanned Britney Spears. *I just want to say that Week to Week Notes still stands with #TeamBritney and #FreeBritney 1 million percent, through and through.* Even though I’m not quite sure what it is we’re taking a stand for, I will always have Britney’s back because it’s Britney bitch.
*Pending this is still a thing we care about on the Internet.*
Okay, I’ll come clean. Britney was one of my first crushes. Let’s see, I was enthralled with Jennifer Aniston on Friends, Kimberly the Pink Power Ranger, Cameron Diaz from The Mask, Topanga, and of course, Diane Lane. Later on, there was Lizzie McGuire and Britney’s sister as well. Also, had the hots for Lindsay Lohan’s English sister from Parent Trap, I still wonder how she’s doing across the pond.
C’mon, I owe this to my 5-year-old self, of course, the odds are astronomically low that Britney ever sees, but “‘You miss every shot you don’t take.’ - Michael Jordan” - Michael Scott.
My poor mother is either going to be mortified or find this hilarious, no in-between.
Fellas, think about all the times throughout elementary school that you daydreamed of getting a Shirley Temple with her.
This interlude here was a joke about the Titanic. I still have to do Part II of Stumblin’ Along the Titanic exhibition, it leads off with a bit about Jack and Rose.
While I’m down this Rabbithole, what other tunes of Britney’s was I a fan of thanks to the Disney Channel showing us her phenomenal music videos… Lucky, …Baby One More Time, Sometimes, (You Drive Me) Crazy…Wow, I’m just unlocking core memories that a grown-ass man who has to write about the NFL Championship games this weekend should avoid. Just to tie a bit of football into Britney Spears, she performed at the ‘01 Super Bowl XXXV when she was only 19 years old. That is truly both absurd and iconic. Say what you want, but she made bops. Thank you for the memories, Britney!
On to the pints…
#GuinnessChallengeSeason
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, whom I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Exposed brick with a tint of white paint. Wooden shelves stacked with hundreds of whiskeys behind the bar. Pat is the bartender. He is a Jets fan. Their cocktail of the week is the New Amsterdam, which is a sparkling white cosmo. Burgers and chicken wings are recommended. Prohibition River was established in ‘14, so they’re celebrating a decade. The Aaron Rodgers Achilles injury had Pat in tears. Curtis Martin is his favorite Jet of all time. Pat grew up in Queens but really likes Rockland County.
Prohibition River is an upscale pub and restaurant that was established in ‘14. They offer a unique experience of craft food and beverage. Included in their beverage offerings is an extensive whiskey selection that is one of the largest in the county. Prohibition also has a catering and private party room that is perfect for 40 to 75 people. It is good for birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, engagements, showers, corporate networking, and group events. I look forward to grabbing another pint at Prohibition River again!
Song On In The Background: The Body of an American by The Pogues
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Tim and Connor are bartending. Tim is from Pearl River and Connor is from TZ. Noonans and Uncle T’s are favorite spots in Pearl River, I love all the Pearl River bars equally, but those are great choices. Old Village Inn was established in 1994. For Tim, who is a Jets fan, “Wow, it’s really setting in now that I’m going to have to watch this Wilson kid play again this year.” Connor is a big Rangers and Giants fan, Eli Manning would be his favorite player, while Tim’s would be Wayne Cherbet. Old Village Inn’s Guinness is their top seller. They recommend either the Shepherds’ Pie or Chicken Pot Pie. The owner of the pub is from County Leitrim. They serve a proper pint of Guinness!
Olde Village Inne is now Nyack’s Historical longest established Pub. They serve authentic Irish food with Irish dishes such as Sausage Rolls, Fish & Chips, Chicken Curry, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers & Mash, Chicken Potpie & Irish Lamb Stew. They also have American bar food as well like wings, burgers, pizza & nachos. OVI has 16 taps of beer to select from, but their Guinness would be my recommendation. The bar stays open every night until 3 AM and the kitchen is up until 2 AM on weekends. Eli and Cherbet are class acts - great choices. I look forward to getting another pint of Guinness at Olde Village Inne again!
Song On In The Background: Cigarette Daydreams by Cage The Elephant
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: 2 bars diagonal each other. A lot of space. Comedy night every Thursday upstairs. Happy Hour is Wednesday to Friday from 11 AM to 7 PM. Darts. Plenty of TVs for sports with College Football on. They also have some Bob Ross ASMR on TV as well. Their Slushee alcohol drinks are recommended. Upstairs they have room for private events.
The Henry is a gastropub located in the heart of Nyack. Due to the winter, they are open Wednesday to Sunday at 11 AM. They have plenty of space for comedy shows, house music sessions, and they’ve done Taylor Swift-themed brunches. During the spring, on Tuesdays, they do Trivia and Taco Night. The Henry is a comfortable gastropub with delicious libations & creative bites. I look forward to grabbing another pint there again!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Francesca is the bartender. They have live music getting set up. They have a very large back area. “As for me and my house, we will serve tacos” on the wall. Britney Spears' being on in the background brings me back. I had a poster of her in my room, well my dad put it up for me, I was like 6, but I became infatuated by her. The jalapeño margarita is recommended. Also, go with the tacos. Mexican painter skulls are behind the bar. The walls have that orange Southwest Mexican-American, very authentic spot!
Casa Del Sol has been a Nyack neighborhood favorite since it opened its doors in 1997. Aside from their phenomenal Tacos, they have developed other amazing dishes such as Skirt Steak Fajitas, Brisket Burritos & Mexican Lollipops (homemade chorizo, stuffed with pineapple and wrapped in bacon). They thrive on being a haven for artists and musicians. Every First Friday of every month they do a Nyach Art Collectives Night which features works from local artists on display. Every Thursday, local musicians gather for their famous Casa Jam. Fridays and Saturdays it can range from reggae, funk, classic rock, and more. I also can’t forget to mention that on Tuesdays they do $3 Tacos and $3 Mexican Beers. I look forward to grabbing the Tacos and drinks at Cada Del Sol soon!
