While most beers are carbonated with carbon dioxide, Guinness uses nitrogen instead. It’s what gives it shtick that makes my heart sink, while I’m writing Week to Week Notes for @YouTheReader.
The rest of this tune is great & all but it’s the middle of the World Series and we got to talk some ball in case the Rangers clinch tonight.
‘23 World Series
The Texas Rangers have now taken a commanding 3-1 lead in the ‘23 World Series. For a quick recap, Game 1 was the 1st game of the playoffs this season to go into extra innings as the Rangers won on a walk-off home run by RF Adolis Garcia. Arizona came charging back in Game 2, as they won 9-1 by tacking on 7 runs in the 7th inning and beyond in what was a closer game than the scoreboard indicates. Game 3 went to the Rangers as SS Corey Seager launched one that made the deciding difference on the 3-1 scoreboard. The bad news for the Rangers after Game 3 was that their star RF Adolis Garcia and washed vet SP Mad Max Scherzer would both be lost for the rest of the series with injuries. Last night in Game 4, the Rangers blitzed Arizona putting up 10 runs in the 1st 3 innings with SS Corey Seager going yard for the 3rd time this series. The DBacks would make the game somewhat of a ball game by scoring 6 runs late but I’m sure most of America was already tuned out and sleeping as Texas won by a final score of 11-7.
Game 5
The Rangers will be handing the ball to SP Nathan Eovaldi while the DBacks are going with their ace Zac Gallen. This was the same matchup as Game 1 where Gallen gave up an early lead in the 1st only to compose himself and go 5 innings of 3 run ball. Nathan Eovaldi in Game 1 ended up giving up all 5 of Arizona’s runs before he could get out of the 5th inning. The DBacks went with a bullpen game strategy in Game 4 which backfired immensely thanks to Texas jumping out to a blowout lead. The Rangers pen ended up making an 11-1 lead feel like a nail-biter down the stretch so let’s not pretend like they’ve dominated either. Arizona faces a real challenge in this series with the fact that this series will be heading back to Texas for Games 6&7 even if they win tonight but crazier things have happened.
#GuinnessChallengeSeason
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, who I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Diamond is bartending. She is from the Bronx but unfortunately is not a Yankee fan. Diamond’s family has ownership in Keats and the bar has been around for over 40 years. Keats Bar is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 4 PM to 4 AM and they do karaoke every night. They have a Happy Hour from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday to Friday where if you buy one you get one free. Diamond recommends their wings. During the week, Keats is a United Nations crowd. Yes, diplomats from all over the world go to Keats for after-hours and talk about diplomatic affairs. Besides diplomacy, Keats is a bar where everybody knows your name. When tourists do come to visit, the Empire State of Mind tends to be the most-played song. Friendzy Social Events will sometimes use Keats as a host for dating or other social events. When Diamond isn’t behind the bar and has the mic, her go-to song of choice is Cardi B’s “Tomorrow Too”, a solid choice!
This week at Keats they had a Halloween Costume party where The Mask was doing karaoke. I also found out that they are a Colts bar, so Colts Nation living in New York City, check them out on Sundays. Located minutes in between the Chrysler Building and United Nations Headquarters, Keats is an awesome karaoke bar with a nice pint of Guinness. They offer a late-night kitchen menu where you can watch sports and sing your heart out after a loss. I look forward to grabbing another pint of Guinness at Keats bar again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Yankee bar. A picture of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera hanging up on the wall. At one point this bar was called the Beach House. At this point in time back in July - Mark Zuckerberg & Co. were restricting the @You_The_Reader Instagram account because I was following mass amounts of people on Threads. Zuck put me in jail for Threading too hard. The couple next to me recommends the spinach artichoke dip. They are from out of town and just asked me if they should go to the Ear Inn, I love that place! GST is a neighborhood bar on the corner.
Greenwich Street Tavern is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood. It is right on the corner of Greenwich and Beach Street, so that’s where I’m guessing the Beach House came from. They offer top-notch bar food along with a wide assortment of beer, wine, and sangria, plus their original GST Pulp Bar cocktails. It would be a great place to go and watch sports. They have outdoor street seating that they can fully enclose with heat, TVs, and speakers. GST is proudly The Original Home of the Buffalo Chicken Dip. They commonly have celebrities drop by for a drink such as Robert de Niro, Tiki Barber, Blake Griffin, John B from OBX, Joe Buck, and Lisa Ann. Gotham had them listed in the top 24 best pubs in NYC so check it out for yourself. I look forward to grabbing another pint at GST again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Mariela is the bartender and she is originally from Georgia. “I’m a Bulldogs fan if I have to be.” She moved to New York because she had so many friends up here. She has worked at One and One for a bit over a year. “This place is like home, great friends with great management.” She recommends the Cobb Salad and burger, but they have a large menu full of great options. The bar is named One and One because it’s located right on the corner of 1st Street and 1st Avenue. They have a “Nexus Lounge” downstairs basement which is the Seinfeld reference of “The Nexus of the Universe.” Down there they have open mics, jam sessions, and dance classes. Mariela is not so much into sports but currently is obsessed with Tetris. The margarita is recommended and they have a pool table too.
One and One does Dublin-style Fish and Chips for $14. They have daily specials such as Nacho Monday ($8), Taco Tuesday ($2), Slider Wednesday ($2), Quesadilla Thursday ($8), Fish & Chip Friday ($10), Coconut Shrimp Sunday ($8), and Irish Coffee Sunday ($8). They double as both a sports bar on the street level and a nightclub in their basement, plus they just got a new sound system so Taylor Swift’s Delicate was giving. (I think I used that correctly.) Very cool spot. I look forward to grabbing another pint of Guinness at One and One again soon!
