Down to One | Bowery Electric | Soho Room | Brooklyneer
Alright @YouTheReader,
Down to One by Luke Bryan came out in ‘20. I heard it on in the background at one of these fine drinking establishments at the end of May and I just liked the mellow melody. Chrous is kinda catchy as well. It was a radio hit, peaking at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Luke Bryan told Apple Music that Dallas Davidson was the reason for the smooth feel of the song. "My buddy Dallas Davidson, one of the writers on the song, is so good at melodies, and the melodies in this song really soar. The way the piano and the syncopated track start at the beginning sets a really cosmic and ethereal mood for the whole track. We've all been quarantining, and you might have that one person you've been around a lot, so it's a song that makes you want to go out in the country, sit under some stars, and just dream that the night will never end. The story of a couple being out under the stars never gets old." Dallas Davidson has also had a hand in other Luke Bryan hits like "I Don't Want This Night To End," "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)," and "That's My Kind of Night." (Song Facts)
There comes a time in every man’s life that he has to settle down with one and I’m down to one drink. Nothing against Bud Light or any other great American beers but they just don’t do it for me anymore. Nothing like a nice fine pint of Guinness!
See, nothing but some straightforward nice ‘n easy country. Good tune, with a nice melody!
On to the pints…
Guinness Challenge Season #1
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, who I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: I’m here for the Taylor Swift Dance party, obvi. They have a world map hanging up that looks sweet. Disco ball on the ceiling. “I miss the old New York” sign on the 1940s cash register. Nick is bartending. They have a live music session going on in the room area and a podcast party in the basement. Bar’s bar, no food. Martinis and Negronis are Nick’s favorite to make. CBGB’s was a block over so Bowery Electric’s setting is a nod to them. This is the completion of the 7th #GuinnessChallengeSeason Notebook and each Notebook has 48 pages so at this point at the end of May I had reviewed over 340 Pubs & Bars.
The Bowery Electric is owned and operated by rock and roll lifers. It is a staple in the East Village. They regularly host live music and dance clubs. When I was there, a ton of women were there for the @FindingMrHeight live podcast and they had a Taylor Swift Dance Party afterward. Unfortunately, it was getting late so I didn’t get to attend the dance party with my fellow Swifties, but maybe next time! Below is a list of what they have in store this week in terms of events. It is also a cool spot to hang out even if you’re interested in getting a drink. The Bowery Electric is great for parties and rentals, they have a VIP Room that can get up to 65 people, a cool Vault Room that is perfect for up to 40 people, and their Electric Room downstairs that can fit up to 250 people with a stage. I look forward to grabbing another drink at The Bowery Electric again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: The caramel apple sangria is recommended. Exposed brick behind the bar. They’ve got some shamrocks and beads from Saint Patrick’s Day hanging up. Old school spot. Lola is the bartender. She recommends the pub grub like chicken fingers, wings, and French fries are top sellers. Lola’s favorite drink to make is Manhattan’s. She is a fan of sports, “I like to watch the game for the performance aspect. I was rooting for the Boston Celtics in Game 7, it would have been cool to see history.” Lola has been working at Soho Room for 5 years and loves, “it feels like home.” She is a Boston Celtics fan with Jayson Tatum and Al Horford her favorite players.
Very sad that the Boston Celtics couldn’t finish their historic comeback down 0-3 in the series only to get blown out in Game 7. Soho Room is an intimate neighborhood bar with a full menu of beer, wine, signature cocktails, and bar food. It’s the perfect spot to check out if you’re in the SoHo neighborhood walking around and you get thirsty, or looking for a late-night capper. I look forward to grabbing another pint at Soho Room again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Old radios from the 1930s behind the bar. A large painting of the Brooklyn Bridge is on the wall behind me. Just spotted Victor the RCA Dog with the radios. The windows in the front open in a very cool way at the Brooklyneer, just thought you should know that. Justino is bartending. He recommends the rosemary greyhound with their homemade rosemary syrup, “you could go with either vodka or tequila with it.” Their Cobble Hill French Dip is recommended. The owner is from Brooklyn. They are an after-work neighborhood spot with a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.
Open 7 days & nights a week, their kitchen stays cooking until 10 PM daily. Located between SoHo and Greenwich Village on Houston Street, The Brooklyneer is a nice cozy dimly lit date spot during the week that can turn into a DJ party spot on the weekends. Their menu features the likes of pickle plates, hot dogs, sandwiches, nachos, tacos, and wings. I look forward to grabbing another pint at The Brooklyneer again soon!

I tried getting a picture of the Manhattanhenge… so close!
