I can’t believe I just sold out and did a Harry Styles song because it was on in the background of these great bars. I’ll have to overcompensate and start by saying that people forget this bloke is a home wrecker. Or is Olivia Wilde a…? Ahhh I shouldn’t even go there. I mean it’s none of my business, and the affair got us all one of the major storylines of Ted Lasso so I guess we’re all the winners, right? Nice job Harry, cheers! I’m only busting balls, it’s not like he’ll ever read this.
He is one of Taylor’s exes, so I’m obvi going to take her side.
**But, but, but, Tom the Internet says they ended amicably.**
We Swifties don’t care it’s a Cruel Summer.
I better just lay low and end the intro here so…
On to the pints!
Guinness Challenge Season #1
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, who I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.
Song On In The Background: Move On Up by Curtis Mayfield
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Knicks vs Heat Game 5 is tonight. It feels like they are hosting some sort of charity event. Exposed brick behind the bar. Wooden foundation bar that looks like firewood. My parents would probably love the look of this interior. The pizza is recommended. “Enjoy yourself now” on the wall. The pizza smells delicious. Would be a nice date spot for when it isn’t packed for the charity event. The bartender was busy with a bunch of customers.
I genuinely did not mean to crash the event that was taking place at 310 Bowery, but they sure know how to host a party! This NoHo Bar has Local DJs from Thursdays to Sundays. They also have a Happy Hour from 5 to 7 PM every weekday. They host a Taylor Swift Club tomorrow (8/16) from 7:30 to 10:30 PM ET where everyone gathers to celebrate the spiritual experience of being a Swiftie. My parents would love the rustic interior of the bar. I look forward to grabbing another pint of Guinness at 310 Bowery again soon!
Song On In The Background: Adore You by Harry Styles
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Sign that reads, “Welcome to NYC. Please guard your belongings” hanging above the coat rack. They have Happy Hour from Noon to 7 pm. “Here for the good times” on the board behind the bar. Liam, from Dublin, is the bartender. “Smash burger is quite good.” He always asks what kind of liquor you like before recommending the drink. The wings are also recommended. Cooper’s in East Village is named after Cooper’s Square. They originally started off as a craft beer bar before adding cocktails but have always had Guinness. All the other beer served here is from New York.
Cooper’s Craft and Cocktails offers a unique experience in NYC due to their Irish owner’s roots! This would be a great date spot, a place for a drink after work, or a birthday bash. One of their sayings is “Meet old friends or make new ones. Just pull up a seat, order a drink, and stay for the good times.” Liam lent me one of Cooper’s pens which I use to write some Week to Week Notes so that’s a cool souvenir. Does anybody know if Harry and Olivia Wilde are still together or am I making things awkward? I look forward to grabbing another pint at Cooper’s in East Village!
Song On In The Background: Jack Straw by Grateful Dead
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Kitty is the bartender. They opened New Year and Kitty started that Monday. Skylar, Ash, and Kitty are playing a card game called rummy at the bar. They had an open mic of comedy every Wednesday. Bar’s bar. Tuesdays and Thursdays they had Jazz nights. They were hoping to do Poetry nights. The green tea shot is one of their go-to sellers and it smells good. Bourbon neat is Kitty’s go-to drink and she is a huge fan of the Grateful Dead.
Unfortunately, it appears Watering Hole has closed down since the time I had my pint. From their Instagram, I could tell they use to host some good comedy and great live Jazz music. Everyone I met there was extremely friendly and I really hope all works out!
