Buy U A Drank | Rooster Cup Day 4 Preview | Giligin’s Bar | Goodwood | Boondock’s | Bottled Blonde Az. | The Capital Grille
AC/DC & Fleetwood Mac at the start of the Rooster Cup, now we got T-Pain… Talk about shuffle music range… You’ll see why T-Pain’s Buy U A Drank was picked today about midway through the Pint&Pen&Paper in the Vol II of Arizona desertlands.
This song is largely responsible for why everybody associates autotune with T-Pain, but it turns out he can really sing as well (see YouTube Rabbithole below if you don’t believe me). Here is what one of his peers, The-Dream, had to say about T-Pain’s Auto-Tune…
T-Pain said he wanted to make a song for the people who “begin their relationships in the clubs. Whole conversations begin with some guy buying a young lady a drink. I wanted to make a song for those folks.” Clearly back on May 26, ‘07, it resonated with a ton of people as it reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. @YouTheReader I’ll be honest, I wasn’t hitting the clubs those days but I was hitting jean jams and homecomings doused in Axe Body Spray.

No comment yet on the results of the 3rd Day of The Rooster Cup. The recap for Round 3&4 will come out Saturday. All I’ll say is that today is the final round and it will decide who takes home the highly coveted Rooster Cup.

El Bosh vs. Skin
Patty G vs. Dave
Guinness Challenge Season #1
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, who I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.
Song On In The Background: American Woman by The Guess Who
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Bobby is bartending. They have 1 million in Pennie’s under the bar and a picture of Ronald Reagan in Thailand behind the bar along with police badges from all the major cities of America. “There’s 1 million pennies and other coins under there.” They have Happy Hour from 4 to 7 pm every day and couches in the corner when you first walk in. Giligin’s has karaoke night every Sunday. Bobby recommends the French Dip or Peel & Eat Shrimp that Emeril said is “the best in the Southwest.” Only 2 people know how to make it, it’s a family recipe and Giligin’s is a family bar. You can spin a large wheel at Giligin’s where you leave your drink up to fate. It can land on one of their 900+ alcohol SKUs or if it lands on the mystery plunger, Bobby will make one for you in said plunger which he picked up and showed me. 6 bachelorette parties came here in a matter of 2 hours. Most of the items on the wall were found at Goodwill.
There are 2 wedding photos at Giligin’s. One of them is on the ceiling directly above the bar and the other is in the corner by the kitchen doorway. The one at the bar was found in a dumpster, the marriage clearly didn’t work out. Eventually, somebody came into Giligin’s and recognized the couple. A few days passed and the groom came in asking for the wedding picture to which the owner said, “One woman’s trash is another man’s treasure.” The other wedding photo is from a couple who met at Giligin’s and they wrote the bar a very nice note. The owner is originally from Livingston Manor in NY, which I found out was what White Christmas by Irving Berlin was based on. Bobby says that spring training baseball is a very busy time in Scottsdale. He is from Chicago and brought Da Bears, White Sox, & Cubs along with him, making it the Chicago Sports bar in Scottsdale. The original Giligin’s was established in Thailand and a Thai woman drew this Giligin’s a few pictures using the “no hands, vagina method.” Bobby thought that I should mention his last part.

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Nate is the bartender and he is from Tempe. He’s worked at Goodwood for 7 years. The owners at one point owned The Lodge, but the name of Goodwood stems from the British Goodwood race. Nate recommends the Pineapple Mind Eraser cocktail. They have a kitchen open until 2 AM every day that features higher-end bar food. Some of the recommended choices are mini chimis or fajita bowls. Nate is a fan of hockey and likes the Coyotes. “Their stadium is awesome.” A picture of Pat Tillman photo on the wall. Pop a shot hoop and darts on the side. Naked women, Marilyn Monroe, dogs, and dancing bears pictures have their own wall at Goodwood. This place features a bit of an outdoor and indoor experience, your choice of where you want to be. Bit of a country spot.
Song On In The Background: Message In A Bottle by The Police
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Morgan with a Yankee hat is bartending. Her family is originally from Paramus, New Jersey but they moved out here when she was a kid. Still a Yankee fan, obviously, confirmed. Boondocks got the name because with all the clubs in Old Town Scottsdale’s “The Circle”, Boondocks is a few blocks over so it is a bit of an outsider neighborhood bar. All the tacos are recommended. Their frozen machines and cold brew are recommended, with the vodka Red Bull slush being their top choice. Boondocks has been around for 9 years. They have a massive TV the size of a movie theater screen for sporting events in their outdoor patio area. They also have a pool table and dart boards. Boondock’s has a back patio bar, a square bar, and I’m at the main bar. They have a sign here that reads “In dog years I’ve only had 2 beers.” T- Pain performed here during the Super Bowl.
Thank you @T-Pain for finding my message in a bottle. 🤝
Song On In The Background: Baby Don’t Hurt Me by David Guetta, Anne-Marie, Coi Leray
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Last Rooster Cup, the boys came to Bottled Blonde on Saturday for a few pints. They wouldn’t let us inside because I was wearing Nike shoes. What’s the saying, “Ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun, huh?” Nah just kidding. Jacob and Kya are the bartenders. Kya recommends the chicken sliders, “our menu is not like normal bar food.” She also recommends the Green Tea and/or Mexican Candies as her favorite drinks. Bottled Blonde has a patio bar, back bar, and rooftop. Jacob is a Bills and Suns fan, he’s been at Bottled Blonde for 8 years. Bottled Blonde is one of the top clubs in Scottsdale and one of the few that is open 7 days a week.
Bottled Blonde is a very cool spot at The Circle of Old Town Scottsdale, just be careful to follow their dress code before entering. They have VIP Bottle service for all the Bachelor and Bachelorette parties, plus a solid pint!
Song On In The Background: Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra or something like it that you’d hear at a Steakhouse
Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Rob is the bartender. Waiting on the boys, they’re coming in on a party bus. It should be good craic. I’m already stuffed from the pints. The guy next to me says their brown bread is great. Rob suggests the Porcini bone-in ribeye.
The Rooster Cup lads had an excellent steak dinner picked up entirely by one of the golfers. On the bus ride back, Team Weir’s captain bumped a bit of T-Pain such as All The Above and Best Love Song, so we’ll have to do these eventually down the line. The Guinness was in a glass foreign to me as it wasn’t a pint glass. That said, the food was great and you should check out their wine selection!
