Alright @YouTheReader, many are asking, “say Tom what is your take on the PGA Tour and LIV merger?” We at Week to Week Notes are still gathering all the facts before making informative comments on the matter. The Rooster Cup Commish has already drafted a press release statement for tomorrow’s His or Her Words, Not Mine so we will follow suit.
“It Takes Two” is a song by a New York hip-hop duo of Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock that came out in August 1988. The song samples Lyn Collins' 1972 song “Think (About It).” The famous introduction of the song is spoken over a sample of “Space Dust” by The Galactic Force Band which took place in 1978. (Source: @RapGenius) Everybody has heard this song at some point, it is a classic. In 1989, Spin Magazine published a list of “100 Greatest Singles of All Time” and this song ranked #1. In ‘21, Rolling Stone placed this at #116 of their “Top 500 Best Songs of All Time.” Everybody knows the intro, drums, and chorus, but have you ever taken a look under the hood of the lyrics?
Obviously, this had to be a 15-Second Reel at some point, it gets the people going.
Rob Base is from Harlem. This song would obviously go on to become a massive hit internationally. As for how this could relate to Week to Week Notes, well, we’re still striving to one day be read at 7 AM in Germany by the fall. I don’t rock a mic - I type annotations to songs, but I can occasionally write Somethin’ Stupid, I mean outrageous and if you’re contagious please stay away. I’d rather not be a walking germ as I hit every pub&bar in the Tri-State area.
Wow, the wordplay in 80s hip-hop was something else.
Here Rob Base is again re-introducing himself this time with a really funky concept. That said, I too have to reintroduce myself time and time again plus Week to Week Notes is a bit out there so I approve this message of sharing ideas. @YouTheReader do you know what gets some of the best ideas flowing from time to time… a Pint of Guinness… and sometimes it takes a pint or two to make a thing go right…
Guinness Challenge Season #1
@Kids don’t try this at home. Not just because you’re underage and will have plenty of pints to drink if that ends up being your thing when you’re older but also because Guinness is actually best served in a pint glass from a tap. A pint of Guinness varies depending on the drinking establishment. If the keg it sits in is rarely poured, it can lead to some underwhelming taste. Rather than stealing gimmicks, I’d like to start taking Notes while drinking Guinness. My grandfather from Connemara, who I never got the chance to meet, Thomas Davis, used to drink pints and by all accounts was a self-taught thinker. The one rule I’ve imposed on myself is that I will only have 1 pint per sitting from each establishment I review, so @AnyoneWorrying, don’t worry about my drinking habits. The Guinness Challenge is to “cut the G” on your first sip (more like a gulp and a half). If this is your first time hearing about it, I didn’t come up with the fun challenge @YouTheReader can try the next time you have a Guinness. The 0.0 to 10.0 scale will be extraordinarily nuanced but as a reference point, the only perfect 10.0 I plan ever to give out is at the Guinness Factory in Dublin one day.

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Midtown bar. High ceilings, really high ceilings. Gabe is the bartender. Albert’s is a brand new spot, it was formerly Public House. They have a very large wrap-around bar. The theme of the bar is Golden Era NY, a bit Gatsby-esque, but they are laid back. “We’ll play Kendrick”, as Gabe put it. He recommends the popcorn monkfish and chicken sandwich. The dirty pickle martini is the top seller of late. The “Tonight at Noon” and “Scorpio Buck” are also recommended. They have some really Instagramable cocktails. Gabe loves it here, “I want to go to work.” Gabe is a huge Yankees, Giants, and Knicks fan. He was a commissioner of his fantasy basketball league and used to do bi-weekly power rankings with notes on all his friends’ teams. He said he really enjoyed writing and would spend hours doing it but that it was fun.
It was awesome to hear about Gabe’s fantasy basketball notes, I swear that came up entirely on his own because I hadn’t mentioned anything about Week to Week Notes up until that point. This was my first pint of the day, so hearing a story like that to start, I knew it was going to be a good day Stumblin’ Along The City. Gabe also highly recommends Cannons The Band, he had just seen them live a few months previous. Albert’s Bar has already received praise from the likes of the Thrillist, Insidehook, The New York Times, AM New York, Forbes, and What Now NY. It is a swanky-looking bar that you don’t necessarily have to get all swanked out for, it is cool to keep casual. The ceiling a very high, like very, very high, and the wrap-around bar also gave Albert’s a distinct feel. I look forward to getting another pint of Guinness and talking sports at Albert’s!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Suns and Clippers are on TV. Each booth at the Overlook has its own TV. Bears bar. Cartoons on the walls in the back. Danielle is the bartender. She says it’s a sports bar, not just Da Bears but Cubs, Blues, Bulls, Islanders, and Texas A&M. Dartboard in the corner. Okay, enough detail on what’s going on here’s the backstory. The Overlook traces its roots back to Manhattan in the 1920s. An immigrant Irishman named Tim Costello opened a speakeasy. In 1935, James Thurber ran up a runway bar tab and Costello gave him his keys to the place so that Thurber could paint his way out of trouble. He would paint on the panels in the upstairs at Outlook, it is where he made “Battle of Sexes.” Ernest Hemingway would frequent here back in the day. The name Overlook came about after the owner of the bar had a few beers and thought the bar looked like the same bar from The Shining. After rewatching the movie with not as many beers he realized that his bar did not in fact look like the bar from The Shining but by then it was too late to change all the documents. Bill Gallo, the cartoonist of the Daily News, made all the cartoons in the back.
I’m super annoyed at myself for missing out on Taylor Swift Trivia Night at Overlook. It just happened this past Monday but they do host the occasion every couple of months. I had to mention this because obviously. The Overlook is NYC’s home of the Chicago Bears, during the football season hundreds of Da Bears fans are in attendance. They have over 30 + TVs, and two giant screens on our outside roof deck, plus the games always played in full sound. The Overlook even has a special Chicago Bears menu featuring Chicago fire Buffalo chicken dip, Chicago hotdogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and The Briggs Burger. This is an iconic bar in the City with some awesome history. I look forward to grabbing another Pint at The Overlook again soon!

Notes if you can’t read my sloppy scribble: Some French dude next to me is seducing an American broad. @YouTheReader whatever you do, don’t tell some Sophia chick from Princeton about this interaction going on next to me. William is bartending and he has been working at The Wheeltapper Pub for 22 years. This is part of the Fitzpatrick Hotel. Wheeltappers in Ireland would check the wheels of trains. The mahi-mahi tacos are recommended. They have an outdoor patio as well. Office spot in Midtown for regulars. Guinness is their top seller. Spicy pineapple margaritas are William’s favorite drink to make a customer. William has been in The City for 22 years and loves New York because it is the best spot for hospitality.
Book a stay at the Fitzpatrick Hotel Group! The Wheeltapper is not only a nice pub inside but offers a patio that is perfect for parties in the summer. @YouTheReader whatever you do, please do not mention this Pint&Pen&Paper to Sophia from Princeton. I look forward to grabbing another Pint of Guinness at The Wheeltaper again soon!
