Today’s tune is Role Model’s Sally, When the Wine Runs Out because my mom loves this song and tells me it’s the song of the summer every time I see her.
Did you know the original 7-Eleven stores were called Southland Ice Company and Tote’m Stores before they changed their names? In 1946, they decided to switch things up to reflect their hours of operation, and the name has stuck ever since.
While we’re on the subject, the 7-Eleven down the street from my parents’ house has a 2 for $5 Breakfast Burrito Roller bargain…
Apparently, Sally, When The Wine Runs Out went viral on TikTok after the Super Bowl this year. It has yet to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 but is making some steam.
Last week, Role Model performed this tune on Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Show. I’m sure that Jimmy Fallon knows a thing or two about the wine running out, am I right?
Very nice melody @Mom, good pick!
On to the sports….
Here’s a quick preview of the 2nd Round matchups in Stanley Cup Playoffs as we enter the weekend…
The Bracket
The Stars stole the Jets' home ice advantage in Game 1. Winnipeg held a 3-1 advantage over Dallas during regular season matchups, but the Stanley Cup Playoffs are different. These two franchises have never faced off in the playoffs. The Stars seek to reach the Western Conference Finals for the 3rd consecutive year. Winnipeg will look to even up the series tonight at 9:30 PM ET on TNT.
Mikko Rantanen
The Stars’ biggest star of Game 1 was Mikko Rantanen. The hired gun midseason acquisition scored a hat trick in only a 7-minute, 55-second span in the 2nd Period. It was the Winger’s 2nd trick in a row this postseason after he scored 3 goals in the 3rd Period in Dallas’ Game 7 win. Rantanen became the first player in Stanley Cup Playoff history to have multiple hat-trick periods in the same postseason.
After taking two in Las Vegas, the Oilers will return to Edmonton with a commanding lead in the series. The Edmonton Oilers went up 2-0 in a dramatic OT win on Thursday night. The division rivals split their regular season meetings at two apiece. Previously, Vegas defeated the Oilers in the 2nd Round of the ‘23 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Knights will try to fight back on Saturday at 9 PM ET on TNT.
Connor McDavid to Leon Draisaitl
Scoring the Game 2 OT game-winner was Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers’ Center found the back of the net after an excellent setup from Connor McDavid. After the game, Draisaitl complimented McDavid’s pass, stating, “A couple great plays & then it's all world, that's all Davo. It's toughto really celebrate my part of the goal." Draisaitl has now scored 5 goals this postseason after leading the NHL regular season with 52.
The Toronto Maple Leafs hold a 2-0 lead over the Florida Panthers as the series shifts to Sunrise, FL. The Panthers went 3-1 against Toronto in the regular season this year and defeated the Maple Leafs in the 2nd Round of the ‘23 Stanley Cup. The reigning Stanley Cup Champions hope to make a comeback at home tonight at 7 PM ET on TNT.
Mitch Marner
Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner scored the deciding goal of Game 2. The 28-year-old winger became a father over the weekend. After the game, Marner told reporters, “It’s a really exciting time in my house and a pretty special feeling tonight.” Marner started writing “M” on the tape of his stick to remind him of the newborn, “I’m trying to play for him.” In his 2nd game as a father, he scored his first career 3rd Period goal.
The Caps and Canes are knotted up at 1-1 through 2 games this series. After their Game 1 loss at home, Washington tied things up on Thursday night. These two division rivals split their regular-season matchup and have only met in the playoffs once, in ‘19, when Carolina advanced. The Hurricanes will host the Capitals on Saturday at 6 PM ET on TNT.
Connor McMichael
After losing Game 1 in OT, Washington received some much-needed relief when they scored first on Thursday night. Connor McMichael took matters into his own hands, scoring an unassisted 2nd Period goal. The Caps also got great contributions from playoff legend Tom Wilson. The wing enforcer blocked two shots and is credited with laying out two Hurricanes. Wilson also scored the finishing touches of the night, an empty-netter in the closing moments.
Philadelphia, PA | The Philadelphia Cricket Club | $20 Million Purse | CBS/Peacock
The Truist Championship may be a non-major, but it is an elevated PGA Tournament with a large purse. This tournament is typically played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is hosting the PGA Championship next weekend. Since its inception in 2003, the tournament has gone by the previous names of the Wachovia Championship, Quail Hollow Club Championship, and Wells Fargo Championship. 2025 is the first year Truist is the sponsor.
The Philadelphia Cricket Club is the tournament’s substitute this year, but it has plenty of history. The club was founded in 1854 as a joint where members could play cricket, tennis, swim, and golf. The original golf course of the Philadelphia Cricket Club hosted the US Opens in 1907 and 1910. In 1922, the club opened the Wissahickon Course as its main golf course.
Keith Mitchell continues his strong Opening Round play. So far in the 2025 PGA Tour season, Mitchell is averaging a 67 on the Thursday of Tournaments. He continued such a feat, shooting a 61 at the Philly Cricket Club, the lowest round of his PGA career. Mitchell told reporters after his round, "Everything kind of has to go your way to do that. I'm blessed that it did. I played great and hopefully I've got three more rounds to keep it going." The problem for Mitchell this season is that he has progressively gotten worse each round.
Collin Morikawa
The Truist Championship is Collin Morikawa’s debut with his new caddie, Joe Greiner. Morikawa’s new bag holder was previously Max Homa's long-time caddie. Greiner decided to part ways with Homa, jumping ship to JT Thomas, whose caddie was out with a back. Once JT Thomas’ caddie was good to go, Morikawa decided to dump the only caddie he’s known as a pro in J.J. Jakovac. In his first round with his new caddie, Morikawa told NBC Golf, “Well, look, there’s a lot of new between me and Greiner. I have to take a lot of accountability for that. I gotta go out there and describe my shots, just own my shots. That’s what we have to do starting this new partnership. I’m pretty proud of how I played and stayed true to playing solid golf out there.”
Rickie Fowler
Rickie Fowler’s 63 on Thursday is his best opening round of golf since the ‘23 US Open, where he shot a 62 at Los Angeles Country Club. Fowler would like to replicate that Top-5 finish performance at Philly Cricket Club as he’s yet to finish inside the Top 15 of a tournament this season. The 36-year-old Puma Golf athlete has shot on average a 67 round on Fridays this season and, in fact, has yet to shoot over par in the 2nd Round of the 8 tournaments he’s golfed in. If he plays like he has thus far, Fowler will very likely sit at the top of the leaderboard entering the weekend.
Shane Lowry
Shane Lowry may have had some fun earlier this week while entertaining Taylor Swift’s boyfriend’s brother to a round of golf, but don’t be fooled, he’s taking the Truist Championship dead seriously. After shooting 6 under par on Thursday, Lowry was the very last golfer hitting balls at the range on Thursday evening. A Philly Cricket Club marshal even had to reload the Irishman with more driving range practice balls, a handful of times. I’d say a proper pint of Guinness is well-earned after that.
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy has previously won this tournament four times. It was McIlroy’s 1st career PGA Tour win in 2010, his 11th win in 2015, his 19th in 2021, and his 26th last May. This year's main difference is that the Truist Championship is being played on another course. Nonetheless, McIlroy is still sublime about the temporary change in location. He told reporters, “Philadelphia is one of the best places in the US for golf. There are so many great golf courses around this area. I’ve heard a lot about this golf course, and playing it over the last few days has been cool.” He’s also sublime because he has the opportunity to win the PGA Championship next weekend at the place he owns at the Quail Hollow Club.
