We’ll Be Fine | NFL Draft ‘24 | Syracuse | Jets-Pats | YouTube Rabbithole
Alright @YouTheReader,
We’ll Be Fine is the 9th song off of Drake’s Take Care album. It’s probably one of the least popular songs off of Take Care which speaks to the depth of the album’s hits.
Said it last week but whenever Drake goes with “Yeah” it’s a rap verse with little to no singing. It’s his tell.
Well, that’s a rather cold open, especially for a Monday morning. The play on words could be a reference to Notorious BIG who had a song called Suicidal Thoughts which was on his album Ready to Die.
Jeez, this is a rather morbid way to start a Note, but on a serious subject, September is National Suicide Prevention Month. There are organizations out there such as 988 Life Line that raise awareness and focus efforts on directing treatment. These organizations are working to change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention, and promote healing, help, and give hope. You’re never alone.
Aaliyah was the “Princess of R&B” who tragically passed away in ‘01 in a plane accident. She was only 22 years old. Drake, who was a teenager when Aaliyah was making music, has credited her as a very influence on his style of music.
Nicki Minaj isn’t on this song but is on next Mock Draft Monday’s Make Me Proud.
The simple hook with the beat produced by 40 is one of Drake’s underrated choruses.
Bo Nix is from Pinson, Alabama. He set Alabama state records with more than 12,000 career total offense yards and 161 career TD accounted for. He originally played school in his home state as he attended Auburn University. As a freshman at Auburn, Nix became the first true freshman to start for the Tigers on opening day since 1946. Nix won the SEC Freshman of the Year as he threw for 2,542 yards with 16 passing TDs and 7 rushing TDs. As a sophomore at Auburn, the team named him captain and he had a solid year during the COVID-shortened season. After his junior season at Auburn, he graduated while missing the end of his season due to injury. Nix then decided a change was due so he entered the College Football transfer portal and chose Oregon. As a Duck in ‘22, the 6’2” QB from Alabama accounted for a total of 4,103 yards of offense while scoring a total of 44 TDs (29 passing, 14 rushing, and 1 receiving). He also set an Oregon school record becoming the 1st Duck to throw for a completion percentage above 70%. It’s still early into the College Football season in ‘23, but Nix is completing passes at an insane 79.4% rate with 11 TDs to just 1 INT. He also just smoked the Colorado Buffaloes buzz, so I gotta give him his due. Prior to Oregon, I thought Nix would always be a better college QB than I did NFL, but his improved accuracy is very impressive.
Jayden Daniels is from San Bernardino, California. He originally went to school at Arizona State where he was a 3 year starter for their program. As a Sun Devil Daniels threw 32 TDs to 13 INTs and also ran for 13 other scores. He is a dual-threat QB who in ‘22 with the LSU Tigers rushed for a team highs of 885 yards and 11 TDs. He also completed passes at a 68.2% clip with 17 TDs to just 3 INTs. Daniels has already written his way into LSU’s record books’ as he became the 1st Tiger to pass for 200 yards & rush for 100 yards in a game as well as the 1st Tiger to rush for 3 TDs and pass for 3 TD decided in games decided by regulation. He also started his career with LSU not throwing an INT until his 176th pass, another school record. Just this weekend, Daniels got off to a rough start in Week 4 where he started 7 of 14 for 70 yards with an INT and he responded by going 13 of 15 for 250 yards with 4 TDs in LSU’s big win over Arkansas. He has the speed to extend plays and the arm that can make tough SEC throws. The 5th year senior QB has the tools to play on Sundays.
Junior Colson was born in Haiti and spent the first 9 years of his childhood there until he was placed in an orphanage in Port-au-Prince. He would be adopted by the Colson family when they were on a church mission after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. The Colsons lived in Brentwood, Tennessee, which is just south of Nashville. As soon as Colson got off the plane from Haiti, the first thing he saw in America was Michigan hats. He told Sports Illustrated, "That was my first plane ride ever. When I first got off the terminal, all of our family members and friends were all there holding up 'welcome home' signs. The first thing I saw in America was a Michigan hat. That's what all of my family members were wearing, they're big Michigan fans." After having a part-time role at Michigan his freshman year, Colson made big strides in ‘22 when he led the team with 101 tackles including 6 for loss with 2 sacks. This earned Colson All-Big Ten 2nd Team (Coaches) and 3rd Team (Media). He also won Michigan’s Roger Zatkoff Award, which goes to Michigan’s most outstanding linebacker.
K.J. Jefferson is from Sardis, Mississippi, and is a redshirt senior in his 6th year at Arkansas. The dual-threat QB took over the starting job in ‘21. In the past 2 seasons, Jefferson put completion percentages around 70% and threw for over 2,600 yards in the air. He is an efficient passer who in ‘21 and ‘22 threw 45 TDs to just 9 INTs. When you combine that with the fact that Jefferson has rushed for over 600 yards in both years, it is easy to see why he was selected as a ‘23 Preseason Second-Team All-SEC. Arkansas just had a tough loss to LSU where Jefferson nearly led the Razorbacks to upsetting the Tigers in Death Valley.
Adonai Mitchell is from Missouri City, Texas, which is confusing. Mitchell is a junior in college but in year 1 at Texas. All Mitchell knows about is winning as he played for Georgia for the past 2 seasons. As a member of the Bulldogs, Mitchell had 38 catches for 560 yards and 7 TDs. After missing most of the season due to injury, the 6’4” WR caught TDs when it mattered most in the College Football Playoffs. So far this year at Texas, Mitchell has matched his exact stats from a year ago with 12 catches for 180 yards and 3 TDs (including 2 against ‘Bama) in 4 games. Mitchell and Xavier Worthy make up one of the best WR duos in the country.
Judah Mintz is a sophomore guard from Fort Washington, Maryland. As a freshman last year, the Orange point guard led the team in assists with 4.6 per game. He was also 2nd on the team in points with 16.3 per game. Mintz was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team and placed 2nd in ACC Rookie of the Year. This offseason, Mintz spent time at the Nike Academy Camp and believes he has improved on his shotmaking. The 6’3” guard participated in the NBA Draft process last year, before deciding to pull out and play another year for the Orange. Another great season out of Mintz and he could very well be playing in the NBA after this season.
Benny Williams is a 6’9” forward from Bowie, Maryland. He was in the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic in ‘21, playing for Stephan Jackson and Matt Barnes. The 5 Star recruit has played for 2 years at Syracuse. After not playing in his freshman season, Williams entered the starting lineup for the Orange on 24 occasions last year. He averaged 7.2 points and 4.1 boards a game while shooting an efficient 40% from beyond the arc. Expect his role to expand as he enters his junior season with the Orange.
Chris Bell is from Concord, California, which is in the middle of San Francisco and Sacramento. Last year as a freshman Bell started in all 30 games. The forward averaged 6.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting 35% from 3. At 6’7” Bell will look to up his rebound total. Bell will likely grow into a larger role with the Orange and have more scoring chances as a sophomore.
Naheem McLeod grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After playing his freshman and sophomore seasons at Florida State, McLeod has transferred to Syracuse. As a Seminole last year, McLeod played in 28 games where he averaged 11 mins and 1.2 blocks per game. The 7’4” center is a problem around the rim. McLeod is still a work in progress but you can’t teach height and with Coach Autry still likely to run the classic Syracuse zone defense, McLeod should have the opportunity to defend the paint.
JJ Starling is from Baldwinsville, New York, which is just right outside of Syracuse. The sophomore guard has transferred to Syracuse after playing his freshman season with Notre Dame. As a member of the Irish, Starling averaged 11.2 points per game while starting in 24 games. The McDonald’s All-American was a star on and off the court, earning titles such as ‘23 ACC All-Freshman Team and ‘23 ACC All-Academic Team. Starling has a great relationship with Syracuse Coach Autry, so he said the transfer to the Orange was “a no-brainer.” Autry said of the combo guard, “He’s really good with the ball. His passing, I think, was always underrated. And he has a very high IQ. We have a lot of talent on this team and he can still impact the game, impact the scrimmages, impact the practices sometimes without even scoring a basket.” (Syracuse.com)
Notes Nobody Asked For
Jets vs. Patriots (Week 3, ‘23)
1st Quarter
- Garrett Wilson gets the first pass of the game. Immediately slips from the rain-soaked turf field. On the 2nd play of the game, Zach Wilson checks to a run to the right where Breece Hall immediately gets swallowed up for a loss of 5. The first drive ends in a 3 and Out, punt.
- The Patriots drive the ball down the field but settle for 3 points. Pats are targeting the Jets LBs and Safeties.
- Zach Wilson almost throws an interception. Allen Lazard makes a nice sideline catch. Zach Wilson gets sacked, holding on to the football too long.
- The Jets’ defense forces a punt, but the Pats down the ball inside the Jets 10. Breece Hall recovers his own fumble. Ball security in the rain is going to be critical.
2nd Quarter
- The Patriots miss a Field Goal. Zach Wilson stinks. The defense can’t get a sack.
- The Jets have a bust in coverage, Mac Jones hits some 3rd TE I’ve never heard of for a TD bomb. 10-0 Patriots.
- Jets have a good drive with 8 straight runs. Greg the Leg hits a Field Goal. 10-3 Patriots.
- Defense immediately allows the Patriots to drive downfield. New England misses another Field Goal.
3rd Quarter
- The prospects of this game do not look good. The Jets just had the lowest amount of yards in the 1st Half of a game since ‘13.
- The Patriots get the ball at half and drive it down the field again with ease. 13-3 Patriots.
- Dalvin Cook doesn’t get a first down because of a great tackle by Jabrill Peppers. Forces the Jets to punt 2 plays later.
- The Jets crowd is still somewhat still into the game. It’s pouring, it looks brutal. They get 3 straight flags go their way and still can’t do anything on offense.
- The CBS Crew starts to question if the Jets should pull Zach Wilson for Tim Boyle.
4th Quarter
- Tony Romo is killing the Jets offensive playcalling. Thinks they should throw on first down, every time.
- Michael Carter on the Jets sideline is screaming at the Jets RB Coach. The bench is blowing up.
- The Jets get the ball and actually sustain a nice drive that ends with a Fullback rushing TD. 13-10 Patriots.
- The defense needs another stop. They get one with 2:51 left to play. Jets have to go 90 yards for the win. That didn’t happen as Zach Wilson got sacked for a safety. 15-10 Patriots and New England gets the ball back.
- Punter Thomas Morestead boots one 75 yards in the air. Great punt. Pats go 3 and Out, somehow the Jets will get the ball again. Xavier Gipson with a nice punt return, can we get this guy on the field on offense?
- This is it. Wilson’s gotta score a TD. 3rd & 10 he steps right into pressure and has to throw it away. 4th & 10 he throws one out into the flat 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage where TE Tyler Conklin immediately gets tackled. Turnover on downs.
- Somehow this game STILL wasn’t over and the Patriots once again punted. The game ends with Zach Wilson throwing up a Hail Mary that gets denied as the ball glances off the outstretched arms of Randall Cobb’s fingertips.
Postgame 4 PMs
- Taylor Swift is spotted in Travis Kelce’s booth.
