Alright @YouTheReader,
Take Care by Drake featuring Rihanna is Track #5 on the Take Care Album. This was the 2nd of a handful of tunes that Drake & Rihanna collaborated on, with the 1st being What’s My Name? Peaking at #7 on US Billboard Hot 100, in ‘21 Rolling Stone magazine ranked this song #267 all time. (Source: The Rolling Stone)
“Take Care” heavily sampled the beat to Jamie xx’s “I’ll Take Care of You” from the year previous but the actual lyrics to the hook of this song are originally from Brook Benton. He wrote these lyrics in the 1950s and they were recorded by Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I’ll Take Care of You” which came out in 1959.
The opening lines are straightforward as he inquired about someone and was told it was not a good idea. He still went for it because what’s life without a bit of fun? “Truth hurts” and “lies heal” are a clever play on words. They also set up the next line which ends ii “lies still” - the lady he is interested in can’t sleep over the lies someone else told her and while she can’t sleep at night the liar in this situation is sound asleep in her mind. Fergie’s Big Girls Don’t Cry came out a couple of years prior to this song so the next lines could be in reference to that.
The beat switches up and this is sampled directly from the Gil Scott-Heron version of the song. I always thought this part was a bit odd but it makes sense it’s paying homage.
A nice tune I haven’t heard in a while. Riri & Drizzy on the radio, man, much simpler times…
Malachi Moore is from Trussville, Alabama - about an hour from his current campus. The senior safety earned a starting role his freshman on the Tide defense and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. ‘20 was also the year of his career-high 3 INTs. In ‘21 as a sophomore, Moore played in 15 games but was in more a of package reserve role under Saban. Last year as a junior Malachi Moore had 31 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a punt block, and 5 pass breakups. When he entered Alabama as a freshman, Moore was viewed as more of a CB weighing in at 182 pounds, now as a senior Moore enters the season at 198 lbs. and one of Saban’s trusted safeties. A versatile defensive back with linebacking pursuit who has a background playing cornerback should have value in the NFL.
Tommy Eichenberg is from Cleveland, Ohio so you know he grew up a Buckeyes fan and is living out his dream playing linebacker for them. The 5th year senior has already had an excellent career at Ohio State and is hoping to cap it off with a special season in ‘23. In ‘19 as a freshman Eichenberg won the OSU Scholar-Athlete award. He continued his superb studies off the field by being named Academic All-Big Ten in ‘20 & ‘21. Last season, Eichenberg was named team captain and received 1st Team All-Big Ten honors. For his career, the younger brother of Liam Eichenberg (who played for Notre Dame & now in the NFL for the Dolphins as an offensive lineman) enters this season with 186 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 2 INTs. Just yesterday, Tommy Eichenberg became the 16th Ohio State player to ever be named captain of the Buckeyes twice, an extremely special achievement for the Buckeye leader on defense.
Jacob Cowing is from Maricopa, Arizona so he’s about 2 hours from home while attending Arizona University. Prior to being a Wildcat in ‘22, Cowing played for 3 years at UTEP in Texas. He led the Miners in receiving yards each season and in ‘21 he had 69 catches for 1,354 yards with 7 TDs. This earned Cowing 1st Team All-Conference USA honors. In ‘22, Cowing transferred to Arizona and immediately made an impact. Starting in all 12 games, Cowing had at least 1 catch in every game which extended his current career-long streak of 44 straight games with a catch - good for 2nd in the nation. In total last season, the 5’11” shifty WR had 85 catches (1st in Pac-12) for 1,034 yards with 7 TDs. Cowing
Reuben Fatheree is a 6’8” and 315 lbs right tackle from Richmond, Texas. The mammoth of a man was named to the Coches’ Freshman All-SEC team in ‘21. As a sophomore in ‘22, the Richmond native started 12 games and was recognized with the team Offensive Mr. Dependable award. With 21 starts already under his belt, Fatheree has the potential to play both the left and right tackle position. Fatheree has been eased into the preseason camp with the Aggies after suffering a lower-body injury from spring practice but coach Jimbo Fisher expects him ready for Week 1.
Mekhi Wingo’s hometown is St. Louis, Missouri, which means prior to LSU he was playing for his home state at Missouri University. In ‘21 as a true freshman at Mizzou, Wingo earned Freshman All-SEC honors while recording 27 tackles, 2 of which for a loss, and 1 sack. He also returned an interception for a TD from 40 yards out, the GIF above. As a sophomore at LSU, Wingo started 13 games where he had 47 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. Wingo was also credited for swatting down 4 passes at the line of scrimmage and 5 QB hurries. Considered an anchor on the Tigers’ defensive line, Wingo was named 3rd Team All-American and 2nd Team All-SEC in ‘22. At 6’1” and 295 lbs, Wingo is considered undersized an edge rusher, but he makes up for this with his great power and natural leverage.

Manhattan’s new head coach, John Gallagher, previously of Hartford for over the past decade, is excited to bring Manhattan a talented group of transfers. Here are 5 Jasper newcomers…
Briggs McClain is following his head coach John Gallagher from Hartford. Originally from Martinsburg, West Virginia, McClain looks the part of a mountaineer. Nice beard. After not playing too much at Hartford during his freshman and sophomore years, McClain had a breakout season in ‘22-’23 as a junior. The 6’4” left-handed guard averaged 14.4 points per game while shooting 35% from 3. In high school, McClain was the Washington County Player of the Year at St. Maria Goretti Catholic. He was also named MAIT Most Outstanding Player and led St. Maria Goretti to the MAIT Title. (Source: Go Jaspers)
Shaquil Bender is from the city of Brotherly Love but was out on the west coast at Fullerton College in Cali last year. He helped the Fullerton Hornets go 32-1 and was named the MVP of the State Tournament after winning the CCCAA State Title. Bender averaged 13.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from 3 last season.
Perry Cowan is from Chicago, Illinois. He has spent his last 4 years at Brown University. Having served as a team captain at Brown, Cowan will take on a leadership role for the Jaspers. The grad transfer shot at a 33% clip from beyond the arc last year. Cowan should receive plenty more playing time and scoring opportunities with the Jaspers, as the 6’4” guard has good catch-n-shoot ability and can finish inside.
Wesley Robinson is originally from the Jersey-Pennsylvania border of Burlington, New Jersey, so he might be a Phillies&Eagles&Sixers fan. Robinson has transferred to Manhattan College out of Bloomfield College in Montclair. Robinson averaged 9.8 points per game with 14 double-digit scoring games last year. Off the court, Wesley Robinson was named to the All-Academic Team for Bloomfield College with his team-high 3.83 GPA.
Daniel Rouzan is out of Las Vegas, Nevada. As a true freshman, he attended Weber State in Utah and averaged 3.1. points per game on a 61% shooting percentage from the field. The 6’10” was a McDonald’s All-American Game nominee while in high school. Rouzan’s other top option for schools to transfer to was Oral Roberts. Welcome to New York, if you can make it here you can make it anywhere. Good luck!
