Today’s tune is Versace (Remix) by Migos featuring Drake. Finished off Nothing Was The Same last Monday and figured it’d be best to go with Drake features from around ‘13-’14 before the next “mixtape” (album) If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
The Versace designer brand uses the head of Medusa as it’s logo, I had no idea Versace even had a logo. This was around the time when the Illuminati was hot on the internet. To start off a featured verse telling people to get off the gated community property is pretty funny.
Drake had been referencing and working with Atlanta rappers since So Far Gone. The mixtape had a song on their called Houstatlantavegas. I never played that tune because it was my parent’s anniversary (Landslide Mock Draft Monday 2/6 '23) and I’d never been to Houston, Atlanta, or Vegas. The bincoluars line is quite memorable.
Drake had won a Grammy for his Take Care album in ‘13, which came out in ‘12. Him keeping quiet here was he hadn’t released an album in over a year.
The label is OVO (October’s Very Own). The album was Nothing Was The Same.
The “papi” line might have been how he got his Instagram handle. Dyckman Street is in the Washington Heights. The famous girl he mentions in the next line is Halle Berry.
Migos are an Atlanta rap group that consisted of Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff (RIP). When this remix came out in the summer of ‘13, I thought Migos was a singular rapper and not a group of 3 members. Versace (Remix) was the rap group’s 1st time charting on the US Billboard Hot 100 as it squeeked in at #99 while reaching #31 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop. Drake’s verse for this was popular at the time and people enjoyed the new Migos sound, especially their ad-libbing at the end of sentences.
On to the sports stars of tomorrow…
Got quite a while before Mock Draft Season so most Mondays will feature stars of College Football this upcoming season who are eligible to turn pro in ‘25. Here’s the list so far, the draft board is subject to change once the season kicks off.
Dani Dennis-Sutton, Edge, Penn State
Dani Dennis-Sutton is origially from Millsboro, Delaware, but he played his high school ball at McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland. The consensus top prospect from Maryland was a 5-star recruit who chose Penn State out the gate. As a freshman in ‘22, Dennis-Sutton was named to ESPN’s True-Freshman All-American Team as he picked up 3 sacks and an INT in 13 games played. In ‘23, he earned 3 starts for Penn State and earned more playing time once Chop Robinson was injured. The defensive end made the coaches’ All Big-Ten 3rd Team for his 26 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. Now in line as the clear-cut starter opposite Abdul Carter, Dennis-Sutton should see more opportunities to sack the quarterback. In an interview with The Athletic before joining Penn State, Dani Dennis-Sutton’s stated, “I’m going to study business. My goal one day is to open my own gym, and I think that’s an achievable goal for me. I love fitness. Just being in the gym in general, everybody is trying to better themselves. I love the gym.” Outside of the grid-iron he also participated in community service at the Dagsboro Boys & Girls Club near his hometown in Millsboro.
Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
Ashton Jeanty is originally from Jacksonville, Florida, but he played his high school ball at Lone Star High School in Texas. Rated by most sports sites as a 3 or 3 star prospect, Jeanty played all over the field in high school at RB, WR, DE, OLB and S. As a freshman at Boise State in ‘22, Jeanty was RB2 for much of the season behind upperclassman George Holani. Him and Holani rushed for nearly 2,000 total yards as Jeanty chipped in for 821 yards on 5.3 yards per carry while scoring 7 TDs. As a sophomore, Jeanty took over the starting role and dominated the Mountain West Conference totaling 1,916 all-purpose yards, good for the 3rd most in all of College Football. The nifty 5’9” RB had 569 receiving yards to go with 1,347 rushing yards while scoring a total of 19 TDs. This earned him the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year in ‘23 and he was also named a 1st Team All-American. Jeanty enters the ‘24 College Football season as one of the most electric backs. His low center of gravity and ability to bounce off defenders make him one of the toughest players to tackle in all of the land.
Jalon Daniels, QB, Kansas
Jalon Daniels is from Lawndale, California. The 3-star recruit picked Kansas over Middle Tennessee, Army, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Air Force. As a true freshman in ‘20, Daniels got 6 starts where he struggled some as one would expect on a 0-9 Jayhawks team. As a sophomore, Daniels didn’t play much until he started the final 3 games of the Kansas season. His highlight of ‘21 was defeating Texas 57-56 in OT. Daniels against the Longhorns threw for 202 yards with 3 TDs while rushing for 45 yards and score. As a junior in ‘22, Jalon Daniels entered the season as the team’s QB1 and had his best statistical season with 2,014 passing yards, 18 passing TDs, 419 rushing yards, and 7 rushing TDs. Entering the ‘23 season, Daniels was expecting to improve upon his best season yet, but was hampered by a back injury which forced him to miss most of the season. Kansas in ‘23 went 9-4. He now enters the ‘24 CFB season as an experienced Redshirt Senior and his focus will be leading the Kansas program to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since ‘07-’08.
Xavier Nwankpa, S, Iowa
Xavier Nwankpa is from Pleasant Hill, Iowa. He was named the Iowa High School Player as a senior while leading his school to a state title. Nwankpa decided to play for his home state with the Hawkeyes. As a freshman ‘22, Nwankpa only made 1 start at safety, but was awarded the team Hustle Award for his play on special teams. In his limited playing time on defense, the true freshman was still able to flash with a 52 yard Pick-6. In ‘23 as a sophomore, Nwankpa took over the starting strong safety job. He had 42 tackles, 2 TFLs, a sack, and another interception. After playing alongside 2nd Rounder Cooper DeJean in ‘23, the former 5-star prospect will look to join the list of Iowa Hawkeye DB’s who’ve gone on to play in the NFL like DeJean, Riley Moss, Geno Stone, and Desmond King II.
Ajani Cornelius, OT, Oregon
Ajani Cornelius is from Harlem, New York. He played for Archbishop Stepinac, leading the Crusaders to back to back state championships and NYC High School Football League titles. As a senior he was named Catholic High School Football League AAA Offensive Lineman of the Year. His first college stop was at URI. As a freshman in ‘21, Cornelius was the Rams starting right tackle for 12 games and he didn’t allow a sack in 271 passing blocking snaps. In ‘22 as a sophmomre, Ajani Cornelius was again the team’s starting RT and he was recognized as 1st Team Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference. PFF College loved his game in ‘22 as they graded him out as 89.5, 3rd best in the country. Ajani Cornelius decided to transfer out west following his sophomore campaign, choosing to play for the Oregon Ducks. In ‘23, he again played RT and he again allow zero sacks in 512 passing downs. Him and LT Josh Conerly Jr. helped protect Bo Nix in ‘23. The pair will now block southpaw QB Dillon Gabriel so it’ll be Cornelius’ job to protect his QB’s blindside. Off the gridiron, this past week Ajani Cornelius held the first annual Back 2 School Jamboree, a football camp for kids in Harlem, New York. He Tweeted out, “Our first annual Back 2 School Jamboree was a HUGE success. I am thankful to be able to give back to the community that raised me and helped me to achieve the success that I have earned so far. A big thank you to the local businesses, my family, and my friends. Your generosity made the jamboree a fantastic event.” Good stuff, here is the video.
Previewing possible College Basketball starting 5s for this upcoming season. So far it’s been Duke, UConn, and St. John’s, this week’s is Kansas.
Hunter Dickinson, C, Senior
Hunter Dickinson’s hometown is Alexandria, Virginia, but he played his high school ball in Maryland at DeMatha Catholic. In ‘20, Dickinson was the Maryland Player of the Year as he became the school’s all-time winningest player with a 119-22 record. Out of high school, Michigan was his first college spot. As a freshman for the Wolverines, Dickinson made an immediate impact as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in ‘21, averaging 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He played 2 more seasons at Michigan where he improved to averaging over 18 points and nearly 9 boards per game while being named 1st Team All Big Ten in both years. At the conclusion to the Wolverines’ ‘23 season, the 7’1” center decided to transfer to Kansas. As a senior with the Jayhawks, Dickinson led the team in rebounding with 10.9 per game while being the #2 option as scorer with 17.9 ppg. This earned him the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and recognition as a Wooden All-American. The lefthanded big decided to return for a super senior season and will once again be an integral center piece.
KJ Adams, SF, Senior
KJ Adams is from Austin, Texas, where he played his high school ball for Westlake HS averaging 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists his senior season. The 4-star recruit decided on Kansas in ‘21. Although Adams didn’t earn many minutes his freshman season, he was a part of the Jayhawks most recent College Basketball Championship. He returned as a sophomore in ‘22 and was named the Big 12 Most Improved Player as he averaged 10.6 points with 4.3 rebounds per game. Last season as a junior, KJ Adams contained to improve as he shot 60% from the floor while averaging 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. Adams earned an All-Big 12 honorable mention as he and Dickinson dominated the low post. This past week, the Kansas senior hosted a basketball camp for kids at Westlake High School. “It’s always something I wanted to do, especially at my old school in Westlake. It’s been surreal, I’ve been to all these camps throughout the years. Just looking up to guys and now having kids look up to me, it gives me flashbacks to when I was doing the same thing as these kids.” More good stuff, here is the video.
David Coit, PG, Junior
David Coit is from Columbus, New Jersey, and played high school hoops at Princeton Day School. Out of high school, Coit attended Atlantic Cape Community College where he dominated the NJCAA Division III level competition by averaging 30.6 points per game as he was named the Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2021-22. David Coit then transferred to Northerm Illinois and in his first year in Divison I hoops he proved he could play, averaging 15.1 points with 1.2 steals per game. Last season for the Huskies, the 5’11” guard averaged 20.8 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. This past week, Coit decided to transfer to Kanas. During his time at Northern Illinois, David Coit was asked to take on much of the scoring duties so with more scoring power on the Jayhawks, expect his 3-point shooting (35%) to improve. A few years ago, Coit was dominating Division III hoops to now getting a shot at a starting role for a blue chip program.
AJ Storr, SG, Junior
AJ Storr is from Rockford, Illinois. His mother was standout basketball player for Illinois Central College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. A 4-star recruit out of high school, AJ Storr initially chose to play for St. John’s in ‘22, As a freshman for the Johnnies, Storr was named to the Big East All-Freshman team while leading his frosh peers in 3-point shooting at 40.4% while scoring 8.8 points per game. Storr then decided to transfer to Wisconsin last season as he was named Second Team All-Big Ten in ‘24. For the Badgers, the 6’7” shooting guard improved his scoring to 16.8 points per game, but really broke out at the right time to average 22.5 points per game in the Big Ten Tournament. David Coit and AJ Storr form an explosive backcourt of transfers.
