On to the sports…
Back to building on to the ‘25 Draft Board, I’ll have to update it at some point but here’s what we got so far…
Chandler Morris, QB, North Texas
Chandler Morris is from Highland Park, Texas. A 4-star recruit, Morris went 27-2 as QB1 at Highland Park High School and was named the state championship MVP as a junior. Before North Texas, Chandler Morris had spent the past 4 seasons at Oklahoma and TCU. He saw his first collegiate action as a freshman sitting behind Spencer Rattler with Lincoln Riley as his head coach in ‘20. Morris then transferred to the Horned Frogs in ‘21, during his lone start of the season he won Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his 531 total yards. Later in the year, he saw action in mop-up duty for the College Football National Championship when TCU got blown out by Georgia. In ‘22, he entered the season as the starting QB, however, on opening day he had to leave in the 3rd Quarter and wouldn’t return until November that season. Last season in ‘23, Chandler Morris was once again named the opening day starter for the Horned Frogs, but again got injured 6 games into the season. Nonetheless, his 66% completion percentage and 12 TDs were career-highs until this season. Morris decided to transfer to North Texas and has dominated with the Mean Green. In 8 games thus far, Morris has thrown for 2,873 yards and 26 TDs to just 8 INTs. In terms of passing statistics this season, either Morris or Cam Ward leads in terms of yardage or TDs thrown. This Saturday, the North Texas QB faces off against Army.
Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State
Jalen Royals is from Powder Springs, Georgia. A 3-sport athlete in high school, Jalen Royals played football and basketball, while competiting as an all-state high jumper in track & field at Hillgrove High School. For his first stop out of high school, Royals played for Georgia Military College in ‘21. He then transferred to Utah State in ‘22 but didn’t record a catch in his first start for the Aggies. In ‘23 as a junior, Jalen Royals broke out and was named 1st Team All-Mountain West. Royals caught 71 passes for 1,080 yards, and a school-record 15 TDs. He returned this season for his senior year and was off to another great start 55 catches for 834 yards and 6 TDs in just 6 games. Unfortunately, Jalen Royals’ season was derailed by a foot injury in mid-October. While he may have one more year of eligibility left, Roayls has plenty of proven production in the past year and a half so the NFL is on the table.
Cameron Williams, OT, Texas
Cameron Williams is from Duncanville, Texas. A 3-star recruit originally set for Oregon, he ultimately decided to play for the Texas Longhorns. As a freshman in ‘22, Cameron Williams played in 13 games blocking for the field goal unit. As a sophomore in ‘23, Williams made one start at RT and otherwise played on special teams. This season, Williams earned a starting role as the team’s RT, and he immediately an impact during the ‘24 opening weekend as he was named SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week. Since then, Williams and the Longhorns have been named to the Joe Moore Award midseason roll, which goes to the top offensive line unit in all the land. At 6’5” and 335 lbs, Williams is an excellent run blocker opposite LT Kelvin Banks Jr. NFL scouts will be big fans of the size and force you can’t teach.
Jackson Woodard, LB, UNLV
Jackson Woodard is from Little Rock, Arkansas. After 2 years of going to the State Championship with Little Rock Christian Academy and winning 1 state title, Woodard decided to stay in-state at Arkansas University. As a Razorback, Woodard had a tough time cracking the defense’s starting lineup, but he played 3 seasons primarily as an important part of their special teams. After his sophomore season in ‘22, Jackson Woodard transferred to UNLV and he immediately earned the starting role. In 14 starts in ‘23, Woodard finished 1st Team All-Mountain West and was the conference’s Defensive Newcomer of the Year. He led the Rebels with 117 tackles, 9 TFLs, 4 pass breakups, 3 sacks, and an interception. After one season with the Rebels, Woodard was chosen as captain his senior year and has once again starred in the UNLV defense. As of last weekend, Jackson Woodard leads the Rebels in tackles with 77 and TFLs with 10. The versatile linebacker is also the only player in the nation with 4 INTs and 3 sacks so far on the season.
Davin Vann, Edge, NC State
Davin Vann is from Cary, North Carolina, where he was the 12th-rank recruit of the state and decided to stay home, joining the Wolfpack. After redshirting during the ‘20 season, Vann played in all 12 games as a freshman and cracked the starting lineup for the last 3 games while picking up 4 sacks. Vann entered ‘22 as a starting sophomore and collected 4.5 sacks. He earned the team’s Alpha Rising Award (team’s most promising player) and Carey Brewbaker Award (MVP of D-Line). As a junior in ‘23, Davin Vann had a career-high 5.5 sacks, including 2 against Notre Dame. This season as a senior, Vann is captain of the Wolfpack, leads the team in sacks with 5.5, has a career-high 10 TFLs, and leads all of the nation in forced fumbles with 5. Off the field this past October, Davin Vann started a Hurricane Helene relief fund for the western part of North Carolina. He approached his head coach Dave Doeran who was immediately on board, offering up the NC State football’s Close-King Indoor Practice Facility as a donation center for those affected. Good stuff!
Men’s College Basketball tips off tonight. Here is a quick 5-player profile from players inside the AP Top 25…
David Coit, PG, Kansas
David Coit is from Columbus, New Jersey, and played high school hoops at Princeton Day School. Out of high school, Coit attended Atlantic Cape Community College where he dominated the NJCAA Division III level competition by averaging 30.6 points per game as he was named the Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2021-22. David Coit then transferred to Northern Illinois and in his first year in Divison I hoops he proved he could play, averaging 15.1 points with 1.2 steals per game. Last season for the Huskies, the 5’11” guard averaged 20.8 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. This past week, Coit decided to transfer to Kanas. During his time at Northern Illinois, David Coit was asked to take on much of the scoring duties so with more scoring power on the Jayhawks, expect his 3-point shooting (35%) to improve. A few years ago, Coit dominated Division III hoops and is now getting a shot at a starting role for a blue chip program.
Cooper Flagg, F, Duke
Cooper Flagg is from Newport, Maine. The 5-star recruit is the consensus #1 player of his entire recruiting class. Gatorade and Naismith each named him the Player of the Year while McDonald’s proclaimed he’s an All-American. As a senior, Flagg averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.7 blocks as he led Monteverde to a perfect 33-0 record along with a National Championship title. I didn’t even know there were such things as national high school champions. In ‘22, Cooper Flagg was named the MVP of the U17 Men’s World Cup as he averaged 9.3 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game. Flagg participated with the Team USA Olympians as a part of the Select Team and was the only teenager/collegiate player selected to train with the NBA stars. Per reports, he held his own in the scrimmages. At 6’9”, Cooper Flagg can do it all on the court, defend the paint, rebound, distribute or handle the ball like a guard, and shoot the lights out of the gym.
Johni Broome, F, Auburn
Johni Broome is from Plant City, Florida, where he was the Hillsborough County Player of the Year as a senior in high school. His first stop in college was at Morehead State where as a freshman he immediately made an impact becoming the OVC Freshman of the Year as he averaged 13.7 points and 9 rebounds per game. During his sophomore year at Morehead State, he put more emphasis on defense as he averaged an absurd 3.9 blocks per game while winning the conference defensive player of the year. That year he also averaged a career-high 16.8 points and 10.5 rebounds. Broome transferred to Auburn for the ‘22-’23 season and has been an excellent addition to the War Eagles ever since. As a junior, Broome averaged 14.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game while being named 2nd Team All-SEC. He followed that up with an even better season in ‘23-’24, as he became the 14th player in Auburn Hoops history to be named an All-American. Broome averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game as he became the 40th War Eagle to score 1,000 career points with the program. Now a 5th-year senior, Johni Broome will have one more shot at a March Madness run before making his way to the NBA.
D.J. Wagner, G, Arkansas
DJ Wagner is from Camden, New Jersey. His father, Dajuan Wagner, was one of John Calipari’s original one-and-done players who went on to be lottery draft picks. Dajuan Wagner as a freshman at Memphis in ‘02 averaged 21.2 points per game and was the 6th pick in the ‘02 NBA Draft the year before the Cavs got LeBron. Unfortunately, Dajuan’s NBA career was cut short due to injuries. His son, DJ, is another promising young basketball star. Wagner was ranked as high as the #4 of his recruiting class as he was named the McDonald’s All-American Game and Iverson Class Game MVPs. As someone who scouted the Iverson Game with a media-credentialed pass, I can confirm he was as good as Rob Dillingham, his Kentucky teammate from a year ago. Wagner as a freshman at Kentucky was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team as he averaged 9.9 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game. He chose to join John Calipari at Arkansas, where he’ll be in Year 2 of his system. While his freshman season was ultimately inconsistent, DJ Wagner has a great opportunity to rebound as a sophomore.
Ace Bailey, F, Rutgers
