PGA/LIV | T-Swift | My Favorite Tweeter | Yanks&Jets | Air Bud | Succession
@YouTheReader we’ll skip the whole intro paragraph and get to the point. Whatever is on your mind, sports, music, movies, shows, life, etc. There are so many of you die-hard fans of all things who know what you're talking about, so this Thursday spot could only help. I love Thursday's spot because in a way it’s a reset of the week in Week to Week Notes.
@YouTheReader your default setting for His or Her Words, Not Mine is a team/sport/topic “fan insider.” All you have to do is send over a resume, cover letter, a form of ID, and 3 references. If you wish to come up with your own @Name, I’ll run with that so that other @YouTheReaders could also start to get to know your style. Either way, I won’t tell no one your name. Unless you want your name on Week to Week Notes.

Rooster Cup Press Release
From the Rooster Cup Commish…
The Rooster Cups’ stance on the merger is still in question. If the media approached any of you please direct them my way.
Well, what do you know, the media couldn’t help but make this massive announcement all about the Rooster Cup. Check out what was on the Golf Network’s bottom-line breaking news.
As an unbiased and independent journalist with no associations with the Rooster Cup besides being an independent contractor covering his second all-access media credentialed event, I feel it is my duty to provide the facts about the PGA & LIV Tour Merger. On Tuesday morning, Golf made airwaves when the merger was randomly announced that the two were combining into a global golf league yet to be named. After about a year of back and forth, the PGA Tour had a price in mind, and the LIV Tour, excuse me Public Investment Fund controlled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, met it.
All former PGA Tour players who signed massive contracts with LIV, many north of hundreds of millions, will be back touring with their former mates every weekend. The PGA Tour Players who remained loyal and stuck to their morals over money got screwed over. One aspect of all of this that is disgusting is how the PGA Tour officials such as their commissioner Jay Monahan tried playing the sympathy card using 9/11 and victims’ families as a bargaining chip for the moral high ground of why the LIV Tour was bad for golf. Ultimately, the money talked and the American organization founded in 1929 caved.
The harsh reality of the situation is that this was inevitable. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his royal family print money with rumors that the House of Saud has an estimated net worth of $1.4 trillion. Non-major PGA Tour viewership has been slumping of late and while nobody was watching LIV Tour, the LIV Tour players were actually dominating the first 2 majors of ‘23. Golf, like all sports, is a business, and as long as business people are running sports (which will always be the case), money will always talk. While it is unconfirmed how much of a slice the House of Saud now owns of the Golf World, they now are the bank and are prepared to invest billions of new capital into the new entity.
The narrative now heading into the U.S. Open in LA next weekend will be all about the future of golf, but this sort of news is frightening in that if an organization with deep roots and deep pockets such as the PGA Tour can be bought what is next? I’m not saying this will happen tomorrow or even a decade from now, but this sort of opens the door to all American sports down the line. The Saud family has already started to make a footprint in the soccer world, they just took golf, and they’re rumored to want tennis yet. If those sports don’t interest you, well who is to say the Saud Family doesn’t eventually want in on the NFL? Do you really think the NFL and its owners couldn’t be bought if the Saud Family said they wanted to host the Super Bowl?
Maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but even if you’re someone who doesn't care about sports, guess what, this will still be affecting your day-to-day life more than you imagine. You’ll be paying for the LIV Tour acquiring Golf. A day before this agreement took place, Saudi Arabia raised the price of gas in the U.S. by slashing the supply of oil for the summer.
1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2…
Sorry, that was a bit of a downer, but I had to be a bit informative in case you missed this. In reality, there is only so much we can control so here is a quick intermission of some hope…
…the boys are so back, it’s as if to say did we ever really leave?
My Favorite Tweeter
Keep My Favorite Tweeter in your thoughts about his thoughts about deGrom. Jacob deGrom has had quite an extraordinary career, but this week may very well be the start to the end of it. He will undergo his 2nd Tommy John surgery and will be out for at least the rest of the ‘23 season. deGrom has not pitched more than 100 innings in a season since ‘19. This offseason he signed a 5 year $185 million contract with the Texas Rangers. My Favorite Tweeter is not being hyperbolic when he says deGrom is missing out on a chance to be an all-time great. Jacob deGrom ranks 2nd only behind Clayton Kershaw in career ERA among active MLB starting pitchers who have thrown at least 1,000 innings.

Is this good?
Wow
Both on the road too, I don’t want to hear about the Short Porch.
6/1 ‘23
Dude is going to force the issue
I’m gonna be pissed if we trade him for some rando bullpen arm.
Garrett Wilson - still good. Zach Wilson - still not so much.
Put it right where the defender couldn’t get it…
Poor Zach

Jake Bauers game
I can’t tell if he’s good or terrible
Both - but better then Hicksie
Goody now has as many home runs this year as Hicks
And better upside
When he points before he reaches 1st base = my favorite part
Haha I noticed that too, that was great
Judge just ran through a fence.
He is insane
Huh?
Good lord.

Not good.
…but you know who was good on Sunday…
…the varsity-lettered sophomore who dismantled his older cousins in every aspect of golf. It was a lot of fun and the kid can really hit bombs. Looking forward to playing again this summer.

Would be awesome if this guy is legit.
Hopefully, he can crack the starting lineup by the opener
Or at least know we have a guy for the next 5-10 years.
That’s true, even if he’s a TE2 that sticks that would be great. Good problem to have but I wonder what they do at TE group. I guess they could keep 4 but I doubt they’d want to risk practice squad-ing Kutz even if he’s a 7th rounder
We need to find a way to keep good players.
Yanks should trade for Giolito - like right now
He’s probably be pretty cheap right?
I think he’s a free agent after this year, so yeah, I would think so
(@YouTheReader Giolito was no-hitting the Yankees and confirming with the Yankee fan insiders here. Giolito is a free agent after this season. From ‘19 to ‘21, it looked like he was really starting to figure it out as a top-of-the-rotation starter with elite stuff. He took a step back last year and the White Sox are already well out of contention so he will likely be dealt by the trade deadline.)

Thurman Munson’s bday is today. He would’ve been 76.
He should be in the Hall of Fame.
We were on a trip to Florida and in a hotel when we heard about it on the news. Sad stuff. If you get a chance - watch some old videos of the funeral - you see how much the players and coaches loved him.
@YouTheReader Thurman Munson deserves a whole well-thought-out and researched write-up. Just saw his throw on Twitter and thought it would be worth mentioning since he was a Yankee icon who was gone too soon.
Critiquing Critics - Air Bud
“Ain’t no rule that says the dog can’t play.” Disney Classic where a stray saves the day and dominates the hardwood. Who could hate this 90s kids’ classic…
I didn’t know dogs could offend. People forget that Air Bud inspired a whole generation of good boys and girls everywhere…
…wait that was the plot of Air Bud? Sheesh I don’t remember that at all. Pretty dark for a ‘90s kids’ movie, no?
I concur with Heather here, Common Sense Media take.
Roger is a dog guy, good man yourself, Roger.
Succession
*Spoilers… it’s been 2 weeks and it’s on you if you read past here…*
You watch the finale?
Elite.
We all got Wamgambsed!
That final shot of Kendall gave me Godfather vibes for some reason.
Yeah, the music too.
What was the part when Roman said Kendall was BS or something?
Think he just meant that they’re all full of shrimp. None of them are real people, it was all Logan and none of it was ever real.
Yeah I thought he was like talking about how he’s not actually his son or something lol
Apparently, the mom had an affair. Shiv is his only actual heir, allegedly.
Gotta rewatch. Greg played the game. Tom could have f****** him. Glad he didn’t.
He’s willing to sing for his supper
I watched the first 6 episodes of season 1 yesterday lmao
Haha Sunday I rewatched the finale 3 times. As soon as Kendall sat down in Logan’s chair and started talking shrimp to Stewey you can see on Shiv’s face she is changing her vote.
Yup totally thought the same. Going in I knew Roman would like not to be a quick yes but would say yes and then Shiv was gunna likely be the one to f*** it
Kendall blew it, if he just stayed cool about it for another hour he’d have had it.
He also would have had a better chance if he just let her think after she left the board meeting
Yup totally cracked which showed he would’ve been a trash CEO
He just reeked of desperation at the end
Frank being like “It’s over man give it up” was perfect. Half of the show is about Kendall’s next play so that felt fitting.
Funny enough Frank tried to f*** over Logan with him in season 1. Karl telling Tom that people would laugh at him early in the season and then Tom being like “Yeah get rid of Karl and Frank” lol
Also, I wonder what Matsson meant by doing all that wild shit while Tom is frontman, I guess he’s supposed to be like Elon/Zuck.
He just needs a guy to take all the blame for him while he fucks around doing whatever he wants. “A pain sponge”. Also, Stewey is great.
Watching this back it is unreal how dumb the kids are
Logan knew it was over. Spoiled and dumb.
That scene in the karaoke place is iconic
He’s being so level-headed about making the deal and laying it out there and they just wanna screw him over so bad it takes over their sense
They want to push for more money when Mattson literally told Kendall and Roman he would walk if they did that
They are not serious people.
Yup none of them ever had any real responsibility or consequences. It’s why whenever Kendall is faced with not getting his way he freaks out and asks for an assistant to fix it (ex: when Logan is already dead on a plane and he asks people for the best plane doctor, or when his wife&daughter leave City so he causes a scene and threatens restraining order)
Even when Kendall was starting to figure it out at the end, he’d still have moments where it was clear he wasn’t a serious person.
Logan was flawed and all but he built it and the kids who didn’t do anything to help were too worried about unimportant bs
It comes down to Logan demanding respect and they don’t. He gets things bc he is bigger than the others. The kids try to get things through devious planning bc they have to thus always getting screwed over.
The kids are just outrightly more greedy than he is in a sense, Logan can afford to be greedy bc he runs the show and he is much harder to take down and more insulated. The kids let their greed get the best of them when they think they have the leverage.
The kids never had any real consequences, as you said, so they always keep pushing for more.
Yup, Logan always had more respect from everybody else in the room than he did from his own kids.
All the kids knew was greed without consequence, Logan became greedy but he came from nothing so it’s what got him there.
The kids acted like teenagers taking it out on their parents, sort of normal for teenagers to do but they were all straight-up adults 40 & over.
They fought him at every turn and lost until he dropped dead and then they still lost in the end without him even in the picture
Not serious people
I think the only thing that rivals this is the first 4 seasons of GoT
In terms of best runs
Death to joy 🤣
Shiv’s Godmother Gerri haha
The details they just throw in are amazing
It’s like Thrones
100%
“Fire Frank, Karl, eat Greg, and fire me 😂😂”
(@YouTheReader I’m not sure if you’ll find the Succession part any more than jibberish, but it was fun dissecting a modern-day masterpiece. I might have to go back and rewatch it.)
