@YouTheReader we’ll skip the whole intro paragraph and get to the point. Whatever is on your mind, sports, music, movies, shows, life, etc. There are so many of you die-hard fans of all things who know what you're talking about, so this Thursday spot could only help. I love Thursday's spot because in a way it’s a reset of the week in Week to Week Notes.
@YouTheReader your default setting for His or Her Words, Not Mine is a team/sport/topic “fan insider.” All you have to do is send over a resume, cover letter, a form of ID, and 3 references. If you wish to come up with your own @Name, I’ll run with that so that other @YouTheReaders could also start to get to know your style. Either way, I won’t tell no one your name. Unless you want your name on Week to Week Notes.
Mastering Story Lines w/ the Masters Fan Insider
This is the 87th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first one to be covered by Week to Week Notes. (I’m a bit nervous.) Some quick bits of info for those who may not be all that into golf - the tournament is held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Golf has tournaments every weekend, but 4 Majors that are held in the highest of regards. Winning a Major in golf is essentially like winning a championship in a team sport. Jack Nicklaus has won the Masters more than any other golfer. He won 6 in his career, the first being in 1963 and his last coming in 1986. Nicklaus’ 18 Major championship wins are also the most of all time. Course architect, Alister McKenzie, never saw his famous course completed. He died just 2 months before the Inaugural Masters Tournament in 1934. Augusta National looks almost nothing like it originally did when it was first opened. It took a whopping 15 architects to make changes to the course since 1935. The original routing is the only thing that has stayed the same. (Source: Lost Golf Balls)
Jason Day struggled with his game for a while but he’s been climbing back. Gives a lot of honest answers in this interview if you’re doing anything masters related.
(@YouTheReader check out Jason Day’s journey back to the Masters in the YouTube Rabbithole below.)
I’m curious to see how the LIV guys play.
18 golfers from the LIV Tour are playing this weekend in Augusta. Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Sergio Gracia, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith are the headliners of the bunch. This will be interesting to watch play out because the LIV Golf Members haven’t been playing in real competitive golf tournaments for a while now. Well, I should rephrase that, they still play competitively on the weekends, but their members have already been paid bushels of cash just to join the tour while the PGA Tour is paid out from earnings by winning tournaments (of course besides sponsors and individual advertising too)
I think Cam Smith will definitely be up there. He has 3 top 5 finishes in his last 5 masters
(@YouTheReader I have JT Thomas as my pick of the week.)
And DJ (Dustin Johnson) usually plays well at Augusta and won in ‘20 when it was in November.
I want it Noted that DJ’s ‘20 Masters does not count in my book. No fans at the course and November golf, ain’t no way. DJ will have to earn it to get recognition for his Green Jacket on Week to Week Notes.
Will Phil make the cut?
Phil Mickelson allegedly ‘didn’t say a word’ at the Masters’ Champions Dinner. “We’re just 33 past champions in a room, all trying to get along,” Fuzzy Zoeller, the 1979 Masters champion said. “Nobody said a word about it. Phil sat near the end of the table and kept to himself. He didn’t speak at all.” Mickelson is making his return back to the Masters after sitting out last year at the height of the LIV Tour Era controversy. Mickelson has missed the cut 3 times in his career: 1997, ‘14, and ‘16.
Will Tiger contend?
Tiger Woods has only missed the Masters cut once and it was in 1996 when he was just 20 years old. He came back the next in 1997 and won the Tournament as a 21-year-old. Tiger has won the Masters 5 times in his career. If he can somehow be in contention by Saturday and wearing red on Sunday, he’ll obviously have the crowd behind him as he attempts to tie Jack with his 6th Masters championship and pick up his 16th Major.
Will Rory finally complete the career grand slam?
A career grand slam is winning one of each of the 4 Majors throughout a golfer’s career. Only 5 golfers have ever won all four modern majors: Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, and Gene Sarazen. Rory McIlroy has already won the US Open, PGA Open, and British Open. The Masters is his elephant in the room.
Will Scottie Scheffler be the first to go back to back since Tiger in ‘00-’01?
Scottie Scheffler started of his week with a hole-in-one on the Par 3 Contest. We’ll see if Scottie can stay hottie. Holy shrimp, I need a coffee.
What’s with the Green Jackets?
The Masters Green Jacket was first introduced in 1937. The idea was that Augusta National members would wear these jackets during the tournament to make them stand out to members of the public needing guidance or assistance. It was an idea borrowed from Royal Liverpool in England when a visiting Bobby Jones attended a dinner. At this dinner, there was a collection of club captains who were all wearing matching jackets to denote their position. Only the current Masters champion, in this case, Scottie Scheffler, can take the jacket off Augusta National Golf Club grounds. Masters champions only get one jacket no matter how many times they win, and it is otherwise forbidden to remove them from club grounds. When Gary Player won The Masters in 1961 he became the first international winner and took the jacket home with him to South Africa. When Player then returned to Augusta National in 1962 he forgot to bring the jacket back, later telling Augusta National Director Clifford Roberts “Well, you can come and fetch it.” Player reportedly still has that jacket at home but agreed to never wear it in public. You know his name isn’t actually JT Thomas, it’s Justin Thomas and people call him JT?
Well, it’s a bit. I accidentally called him JT Thomas once and now we’re sticking with it. I think it has a better ring to it.

My Favorite Tweeter
I agree. Best women’s college basketball player I’ve ever watched. Caitlin Clark even made an appearance on the Yankee Fan Insider group chat - hallowed grounds.
Ahhhh c’mon Mets fan. The Masters hasn’t even Tee’d off and here I am having to give a motivational text. Just a few weeks ago Social Media was littered with content about how Amazin’ the Mets were going to be. Very sad! Alright look, Philly is 1-5, and the Nats & Marlins suck. The Braves are a bit of a wagon but Uncle Stevie Cohen will start paying off the umps. Honestly, though, they should probably call up some of the kids, their lineup is boring to watch and they’ve of course had some bad injury luck. They’ll right the ship… or will they?
@MyFavoriteTweeter thank you again 🫡.

Gonna save the game.
I did read tho, stolen bases are up, scoring is up, and spring training games were reduced by 25+ min. I am for all of that so bring on the changes.
I’m looking forward to no shifts, lefties might be able to hit for average again.

Ok, but did his dad have a Yankee shirt on for all of his kids’ births? My kids did.
