Levels II | 1st Comment of ‘24 | Yanks & Jets Banter | Critiquing The Critics | YouTube Rabbithole
Alright @YouTheReader,
In ‘24, His or Her Words, Not Mine has Levels by Avicii on in the background. It’s a happy song so I figured that would be better to throw up on people’s social media timelines every Thursday. If you ever find anything funny on the internet, have a story of your own you want to share, have your own insight on your favorite sports team, or even a Guinness recommendation, whatever it may be, please feel free to shoot over a text, direct message on social media, or email WeekToWeekNotes@gmail.com.
The vocal sample to this tune comes from Etta James’ “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”, originally sung in 1962.
Moving on…
1st Comment of ‘24
In ‘23, people on the internet that I’ve never met said that what I’m doing would never work, “WTF is this supposed to be?”, and one tried to insinuate that I’m a misogynist. Now only a week into ‘24, I’m schizophrenic. Got it.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health Disorders, 1% of Americans are affected by schizophrenia, 9.5% of Americans suffer from a depressive illness (major depression, bipolar disorder, or dysthymia), and 26% of Americans ages 18 & older suffer from some form of mental disorder in a given year. Mental illness not only affects the people suffering but also their friends and family. Tens of millions of Americans are affected by mental health issues. It’s a pretty serious topic that I don’t find all that amusing.
I know I probably shouldn’t breathe too much life into this, but a part of me does wonder who and where else this @5am_kr4m, or better yet Samuel Kramnick, feels obligated to comment on. Call me 90s Old-fashioned, but maybe sometimes it’s best to just keep scrolling, or better yet just put your phone down entirely. I’m a grown man and I’ve been posting this sports blog for over a year. After a while, you start to not give a fuck what some random stranger on the internet has to say, it’s what I signed up for.
Hopefully, this doesn’t come across at all as some boohoo woahis me diatribe because I’ll probably regret typing this but I love having haters. I totally understand if people don’t want to read Week to Week Notes for whatever reason and that’s more than okay, but to come at me from that angle, that’s just low.
Saturday I was Stumblin’ Along in Jersey City before the snow was supposed to hit. I was shaking hands with strangers, and meeting new people in real life, face to face. I even had a nice half-hour conversation with Tommy 2 Scoops, a local Jersey City legendary business owner. I don’t know Jersey City well so I made the wrong turn on Google Maps, looked down, and saw this quote on the sidewalk. Lately, I haven’t been taking as many pictures while drinking pints, but I figured I’d take this one, and keep it for myself because it was a pretty random happenstance. Just a few hours later when I got home I received my first comment of ‘24 from Samuel Kramnick.
Also, I just gotta say this, some of my days on social media are so bizarre. One minute I got this Masshole commenting and then 18 hours later Kylie Jenner’s ex-boyfriend, Tyga (or his social media team), is viewing the Instagram Story of him rapping on the BedRock. It’s social media so none of it is real life, but I find it funny.
Lastly, I’m already rambling here too much but when I was around his age in college and thought of how cool it would be to do something in sports, it wasn’t like I was hoping to confront stuff like this. While I easily could have just deleted the comment and gone about my day, or told him to kick rocks, maybe at least some good can come out of it. I work my ass off now so that maybe one day when it’s “cool”, there is a comment section of…
“Dude, I took all your football picks and lost $400. I’ve spent the last week on the couch because the wife won’t let me in the bed. Nice going asshole.”
or a smart Swiftie commenting…
“I faded all your football picks and I’m now surprising the husband with a Wooden Horse Device. Great job, keep up the good work, eejit! 🫡”

The Mets want to win in ‘25 and beyond. This is a good signing for them on a 1-year deal.
Queens Bader doesn’t have the same ring to it.
Lol
Wow
A great story.
Incredible. Could you imagine the conversations between those 2 in Steinbrenner’s office?
(@YouTheReader Billy Martin and Mickey Mantle must’ve had some craic. Billy Martin played 2nd Base for the Yanks during the 1950s. He was a scrappy ballplayer who hit .257 with 64 homers in his 11-year playing career but won 3 World Series as a player and was one of Mickey Mantle’s best friends. The Yankees traded Martin in 1957 to get Mantle more on the straight-and-narrow. Martin would return to manage the Yankees when the Bronx was burning, managing the Bronx Bombers to a World Series in 1977 before having an on-and-off relationship with George Steinbrenner which got him hired & fired a handful of times.) I want Chase Hampton in the rotation - seems like a dawg.
I think he will probably have a chance.
Chase Hampton
Chase Hampton is from Kilgore, Texas, which is about a 2-hour drive east of Dallas. In high school, Hampton threw 162 innings with 284 strikeouts and a 1.94 ERA. He went to Texas Tech for college where as a freshman in ‘21 he led the team in innings pitched with a 3.86 ERA. During his sophomore season at Texas Tech, his ERA went up to 4.29 but his strikeouts jumped from 34 Ks in 44.1 innings to 72 Ks in 56.2 innings. The Yankees drafted Chase Hampton in the 6th Round of the ‘22 MLB Draft. Last year, Hampton started in A+ Ball with the Hudson Valley Renegades where he threw to a 2.68 ERA which got him promoted to Double-A in Somerset after only 9 starts. While pitching for the Patriots, Hampton did increase to 4.37, but all in all, my biggest takeaway is that he can strike people out. In 106.2 innings last season, he struck out 145 batters. Hampton is a 4-pitch starting pitcher who has a fastball in the mid-90s, an upper-70s curveball, a low-80s slider, and a mid-80s changeup. I agree with both Yanks fan insiders, seems like a dawg, and should get a chance in the rotation.

Going on record now: I want the Jets to win today. Belichick will be haunted forever if he loses his last game to the Jets.
Haha, that is true.

I agree with this but… not sure going on podcasts every week and getting in fights with Jimmy Kimmel has anything to do with winning.
Probably why the caveat was “in this building”. But I agree with u.
Not sure where that’s directed. Shouldn’t be directed at defense and he brought in all the offensive guys. Maybe Hard Knocks / One Jets Drive stuff but you’re right it’s not like he’s kept a low profile off the field.
Jets sucking the life out of this guy. We need Arron Rogers to be good next year or he’s gone.
Kind of absurd that despite the QB play he’s still so good. Also, Breece with 76 catches, knew he had a lot but wow.
They are both so good I hope we’re able to keep them.
Player to watch tonight: Rome Odunze. We should probably go offensive line, but I feel like this guy would be the perfect dude to pair with Garrett Wilson.

I think Perazza is traded, maybe this week.
They need to figure out a pitcher
@Yankees please get a pitcher so I don’t have to start being mean to Brian Cashman on the internet.
Sort of surprised. They pick #7 so I guess they just want to restart. Maybe he ends up with the Pats?
That’s what I think. He’s young and has a similar philosophy.
That would be bad if Vrabel went to the Pats. I think he’s a really good coach.
And they’ll get a QB for him to develop.

I agree with this. They can’t let this guy walk for nothing but a 3. And why in the world are the Yanks on Stroman - that better not be true.
Agree with Huff. JD usually gets good value with trades. I don’t get Stroman either, not a great guy, and deciding to pay him now when he’s been available/passed up on before seems odd.
Seems like Cash learned nothing if he makes this move but we’ll see.
I don’t like Stroman. But I am kind of maybe talking myself into it. He’s insufferable, but he’s pretty good!
I wanted him 5 years ago when Cashman said he wasn’t good enough. I agree but Yanks need good vibes - and I’m not sure it’s worth the risk…And if it is, that means they are very desperate - not a good sign.
Didn’t see this coming.

(@YouTheReader the greatest college football coach, at least of my lifetime leaving Alabama is a stunner. When I was growing up, Alabama was a program that had a rich history and a middling present. It took Saban just 2 years to take a 7-6 team to an undefeated 14-0. Going into this draft, Saban has produced a whopping 44 Alabama 1st Round Picks and his former players have well over $2 billion combined in the NFL.) Source: RollTide
Critiquing The Critics Talladega Nights
Talladega Nights came out in August of ‘06. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay (the director), co-wrote the movie after they started talking about NASCAR while filming Elf.
McKay said, “We were in New York City, and he was set to take a break before we started work on Anchorman. We noticed how fascinating the world of NASCAR racing had become. It’s gigantic. We weren’t even huge NASCAR fans at the time, but after we started going to the track, we got swept up in the phenomenon. As soon as we heard the roar of the engines, we knew there was something here to make a movie about.” Will Ferrell added, “The challenge for us became writing a movie that was both a comedy and a racing film because we really wanted the audience to experience the amazing visceral reaction we had had while watching these cars fly around the track at 200 miles per hour.”
NASCAR was heavily involved in the production of the film and was even asked to throw in inside jokes, which is how Leslie Bibb’s character, Carley Bobby (Ricky’s wife) was created. NASCAR also trained the actors how to drive as Will Ferrell claims John C. Reilly is the world’s fastest actor because he topped out at 143 mph. (Source: Cracked)
Shake & Bake, I remember it being a fun movie, let’s see what the critics had to say…
Movie Mom was not holding back. She’s right though, Will Ferrell did have a nice run in the late ‘90s and mid-2000s. Maybe I’ll do a Top 10 Will Ferrell Favorites later this winter.
Jeez, Karina must’ve been fun to be around at parties in ‘06.
Nicole is out here just giving out spoilers!
Unfortunately, Roger Ebert didn’t seem to watch this film, but his sidekick loved it.
