Week 7’s Thursday Night Football kicks off between the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. Both of these teams are starting rookie QBs as Bo Nix takes on Spencer Rattler. While they never played each other head to head in college, Nix and Rattler were a part of the ‘19 Recruiting Class as they were #2 + #3 above #4 Jayden Daniels out of high school.
At 3-3, Denver is coming off a loss in LA where they couldn’t get anything done offensively until the 4th Quarter. The Broncos once again struggled in their running game. In each of the team’s 3 losses, a Denver RB has failed to reach 60+ rushing yards with Bo Nix leading the team in rushing in all 3 games. Nix finally found his former Oregon teammate and fellow Bronco rookie teammate, Troy Franklin, for his 1st career TD. The Denver defense this season has allowed just 284.3 yards and 16 points per game, the 4th fewest in both categories.
The Saints are losers of 4 straight after starting off looking like the best team in football at 2-0. Their running game has completely fallen apart in the past month with RB Alvin Kamara combing for just 66 rushing yards in Weeks 5 and 6. New Orleans will need to rely on their ground game again as both their starting WRs, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, have been ruled out for Thursday. Spencer Rattler found fellow rookie WR Bub Means for both of their 1st career NFL scores. The rookie combination will likely struggle going up against the likes of Patrick Surtain & Co., so expect the Saints to insert RB Kendre Miller into the mix. Miller, the 2nd year RB out of TCU, is making his season debut and should provide a bit of fresh legs to this sluggish offense. I’ll take the Saints because their defense just got embarrassed and their season is on the line.
Prediction: 15-12 NO (-1 NO & Under 37.5)

Volpe comes across as an “aw shucks” kinda guy - but I think inside he’s kinda a bad-ass.

I have a good feeling about Rizzo - glad he’s playing. And very windy at Jetlife. They have to be able to run and stop the run.

If the f’ing fg kicker can make at least 1 - we’re still playing. And Clemens should be cut or back of the bench. And Ulbrich have to basically say we lost because our defense didn’t play well is a tough look for him. 1st play of last drive - 5 yards on the 1st play up the gut when the whole world knows they are running in - remarkable. It’s halfway through Oct - and almost don’t care about the Jets with Aaron Rodgers as QB - that I didn’t expect.
They are just so consistently disappointing.

How they didn’t keep huff or get Reddick is fireable offense for JD. We have zero pass rush and still have a good defense. But we have zero pass rush !!!! Doesn’t work and he should be humiliated that we gave away a 3 round pick for nothing (but something we desperately need). And we sit here and watch a slow undisciplined Clemens slowly try to get to the qb. Awful.
He has been GM for 6 years. His best record was first year with Adam Gase, and none of “his” players. He is done.

I was just watching the post-game and Bart Scott was talking about how the run defense sucks, and they need to call Al Woods up (big D tackle we had last year) and try to re-sign him. He goes “he’s probably 500 pounds right now, but they need his ass. ”That gave me a good chuckle. And with that, I’m going to sleep. Go Yanks

This is helpful explanation- and why Rogers was so pissed after the game. They got exactly what they wanted but the WR didn’t seem to know what the hell he was doing.
I think JD may need to go. Trading for Rogers does not = solving QB situation. Offensive line is not good, 6 years in. D line has regressed. And honestly - I think anybody would do well with 3 first-round picks and a high 2nd rounder.

This week’s Criqiting the Critics is The Strangers because Halloween’s in 2 weeks. The 2008 horror film has received awful reviews but I thought was one of the scariest movies in the past 2 decades. The 90-minute movie stars Liv Tyler (who is excellent) and has spawned sequels that I haven’t seen. While they claim it is Based on a True Story, the writer and director Bryan Bertino has admitted he drew inspiration from the Manson Family Tate murders along with break-ins in his neighborhood as a child. Anyway, I just thought it was a severely underrated scary movie because of just how creepy and realistic many of the scenes felt. Check it out if you’re into that sorta stuff. Let’s see what the critics had to say…
